War on Want fights poverty in developing countries in partnership and solidarity with people affected by globalisation. We campaign for workers' rights and against the root causes of global poverty, inequality and injustice.
War on Want knows that poverty is political. The decisions of politicians in rich countries can mean life or death for people in developing countries. We have the power to reshape the global landscape - to ensure that people across the world can live in justice and peace.
War on Want works with some of the bravest and most inspiring groups in the world. In rural communities, in factories and sweatshops, in conflict zones and on the margins of society, we work with people fighting for real, lasting change.
War on Want challenges the structures that keep poor people poor. From trade rules rigged in favour of rich countries and their multinational companies to poverty in Palestine, War on Want campaigns in the UK and internationally to deliver real lasting change for the world's poorest people.
More trade unionists are murdered in Colombia than the rest of the year combined. The Free Trade Agreement must be opposed until the human rights of these workers are guaranteed.
PARLIAMENT SQUARE PEACE PROTESTOR ON PEACE WALK TO OXFORD
Brian Haw to take part in historic peace debate at Oxford Union
Walk starts Monday 4 February, 10am, Parliament Square, London
Debate at Oxford Union Thursday 7 February, 8.30pm
On Thursday 7th February, Brian Haw will be taking part in a debate at the Oxford Union entitled 'This House Would Under No Circumstances Fight For Queen And Country'.
On 4 February at 10am Mr Haw will be leaving the site of his vigil opposite Parliament where he has protested against the government's foreign policy for over 6 years to walk with a group of supporters to Oxford. The peace walk will go through Uxbridge and High Wycombe and arrive in Oxford on 7 February.
The 'Queen and Country' debate marks the 75th anniversary of the famous 'King and Country' debate at the Oxford Union in 1933 when the vote was carried in favour of the motion that 'This House Would Under No Circumstances Fight For its King And Country'.
This vote for peace among students became news around the world. The debate is being restaged 75 years, and many wars, later with prominent campaigners making the case for peaceful alternatives to war.
George Galloway MP, Walter Wolfgang and Scilla Elworthy will be speaking for the motion with Brian Haw.

Thanks for supporting the Stop Firestone campaign and for all that you do! 80 years of exploitation on Firestone's rubber plantation in Liberia is enough! Check out www.stopfirestone.org for more information.
We completely support your movement! A common myth we often hear is that if third world countries were allowed to advance it would be an environmental disaster - This is not so! Countries with wealth can afford to clean up their water after fouling it, replant their forrests and put recycling infrastructure into place! Prosperity for one and all! Check out our profile and blogs please! :)
am sure you already know but here is a quick reminder (Graham from Blind date style!):
there will be a demonstration outside Primark on Church Street, Liverpool this saturday (15th sept) 9pm-6pm. The aim of the demonstration is to help the public be more aware of where the Primark garments are being made, what conditions the workers are working in, the pressure Primark put on other shops to use sweatshops to keep their prices competitive and the environmental cost of buying from Primark.
It will be a non violent, friendly protest that aims to stay within the law. We are not stopping people from buying from Primark that cannot afford to buy anywhere else and only buy when they need necessities from there. We are hoping to make customers who can afford to buy somewhere buy more ethically sourced garments and rethink buying 5 tops in different colours they dont need just because they are £1.50 each!
If you are interested in helping please come to Mello Mello on Slater Street, Liverpool 6pm Fri 14th september to be briefed on the protest the following morning and help make up the placards etc.
Tax is a key weapon in the fight against poverty. Email Gordon Brown to ask him to stop corporate tax dodging and uphold his promises to the poor. http://www.waronwant.org/?lid=14342
