Not so sure about influence, but I love Pixies (as well as the Frank Black/Black Francis stuff), The Smiths (and of course Morrissey's solo work), Violent Femmes, Deerhoof, The Beatles, Belle and Sebastian, Beastie Boys, Neutral Milk Hotel, Pavement, M. Ward, David Bowie, Elliott Smith, Stereolab, Grandaddy, Ween, The Ramones, Bob Marley, Butthole Surfers, Xiu Xiu, The Dead Milkmen, Wilco, Arcade Fire, Cibo Matto, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Dead Kennedys, Bob Dylan, Firehose (and just about everything else Mike Watt's done that I can think of), Flaming Lips, Frog Eyes, Mudhoney, Jesus Christ Superstar soundtrack, Hair soundtrack, Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack, P.J. Harvey, Primus, Sleater Kinney, The Shins, REM, The Strokes, Sufjan Stevens, Bjork, Operation Ivy, Tom Waits, Built to Spill, Guided by Voices, and Sonic Youth. You know, lotsa stuff.
Warren Teagarden grew up in the ‘80’s listening to New Wave and old Beatles records, but quickly discovered punk rock. Those punk rock roots are hard to hide, even when singing a folky lullaby, strumming an acoustic guitar. After playing in a friend's local San Francisco band, he set out on his own writing songs and playing shows in the Bay Area in 2002. The songs can be funny, sad, strange and smart assed, depending on who you ask. With frantic guitar strumming and lyrics that leave you scratching your head in all the right places, a Warren Teagarden show has become a very special event. Someone once asked Warren what his songs were about; “Love, death, God, sex, drugs, loneliness…you know, the same shit all songs are about.”
The debut tape for Fair Ohs has 7 songs of their noisey garage punk meets Minutemen with the occasional psych noise jam. There are on 50 tapes, on a mix of purple, blue and lilac colours, all wrapped up in hand spun, hand stiched felt covers, pretty special!
YOU ARE FUCKING HILARIOUS WARREN TEAGARDEN!! and if i may be frank myself, i concur with you 100%.. see you can add as many of these 'friends' on this myspace as you want but if you dont go the extra mile and leave an inviting comment then whats the point in even sending them a request.. and yes we could be like every other fuckin band and write 'listen to my songs and tell me which one is your favorite and why' but it wouldnt be us.. we here at damsal are glad that you accepted us as your friend. it makes us even happier when we meet people, such as yourself, who put forth some effort to get to know us.. i'm millicent by the way but you can call me millie.. in short i f-in love you and if you want to randomly send me your thoughts on life, i would be happy to write you back promptly.. friend. :)
