Depends on who you ask. An obnoxious shooshy instrument? a snare (maybe sometimes..)? a washboard?
I play washboard and sing with both the Roulette Sisters and the 4th St. Niteowls. I started playing with brushes because both bands are small, and thimbles were too loud and intrusive for either project. The Niteowls are getting louder now (with lap steel & and an occasional trombone), but now I'm too attached to the "poor man's snare" sound to switch...
I've also started playing a drum kit again.. perhaps I will do that out with someone soon, too. Maybe even dust of the congas...

Hey Hey Hey...
Just another boring midweek workday. Why not mix it up with some oh-so-lovely MySpace tunes?
We've decided to add a new feature to "the program": For a limited time, every so often, we're going to post the audio track from one of our live ROCK & ROLL 4 PRESiDENT shows on our MySpace player...
Hole's "Violet" leading into Nirvana's "Lithium" will kick things off & we really want to know what you think. Dylan Halacy is sitting in on drums &, as usual, we're boy-girlin' the vocals.
So, have a listen & drop us a comment, a nice one please.
Happy Wednesday!
Peace...

The late jug master (1939-2005) plays some of the spookiest tones ever on the previously unreleased "Visiting Day." Recorded by the Jailhouse Jug Band, the tune is currently spotlighted on the Jug Bandolier player.
wow, i actually didn't know you played a trap set.i love your washboard playing. have you ever considered adding a bass drum to your washboard routine? --kurt
Not just sounding like a snare! This girl holds the groove down with more variety of sounds than a goose in the jaws of a lawn mower. What we're saying is, she's downright talented.
