Ai Watanabe est née au Japon. Elle commencé à étudier la comosition à l'âge de douze ans. Elle a obtenu son diplôme au Collège de musique de Tokyo et son oeuvre pour orchestre a été choisie pour le concert de fin d'études. En 2004, elle a suivi à Paris le cours d'été Motus de l'INA-GRM où elle a étudié l'acousmatique. En 2006, elle a participé à de stage aux Centre Acanthes (avec Gérard Pesson, Toshio Hosokawa) . Ai Watanabe se consacre principalement à la composition quelle soit instrumentale, mixte, qu’électroacoustique. En parallèle, elle interpréte le Acousmonium qui le system de la musique électroacoustique, elle est ‘muddler’ (sound-mixing) dans AKIFUKUIN qui sont le groupe d'inprovisation d'avant-garde.Depuis 2008, elle poursuit assidûment ses études au CRR de Paris (conservatoire à rayonnement régional de paris) avec Denis Dufour. Ai Watanabe est bénéficiaire de nombreux prix : le Prix de Président du Collège de Musique de Tokyo en 2003, elle est finaliste pour le Prix de la Ligue Internationale d'Artistes du Japon en 2005&2006 et Prix du Concours de Musique informatique contemporaine du Japon l'année suivante.
