"Most people remember the old children’s game “Going on a Bear Hunt.” If you don’t here’s a quick refresher. The leader of the game slaps their hands on their knees in roughly four/four time and tells the group they’re going on a bear hunt. As the game goes a long the group of youngsters is taken on a wild and exciting imaginary adventure through swamps and caves until they ultimately find the bear and run back home. If you’ve never played it you’re really missing out. I mention this game as it was one of the things I thought about while listening to Stone Age. The latest from My America is Watching Tigers Die is a twisted journey through dissonant chords and demonic hardcore song structure; A trip that, like the idea of hunting a bear, should seem inane but is ultimately a great deal of fun. The most unsettling aspect about this batch of frequently unsettling songs is how the band rarely falls back on traditionally heavy chords or riffs, instead choosing to slow, speed up and generally distort melodic hardcore guitars into misshapen piles of sound. Ultimately the experiments create something akin to J Mascis writing a Botch record, with half the melody, like the sonic clusterfuck of “Send More Cops.” Occasionally they stumble across a sound right out of an Eyehategod listening party hosted at a meth lab, such as “Cannabisaur.” Start to finish Stone Age is a musical trip through a surprisingly catchy variant of violent and unpredictable hardcore. I’m sure it might not sound like a good time at first, but neither does hunting bears. But under the right conditions anything can be an exciting addition to your day. Even if you don’t like the genre check these guys out."

"Cacophonous angry hardcore from the Pluto Records crew…
Like a Mercedes McClaren SLK being driven, whilst on fire, into the side of a school… and then watching and waiting and eventually throwing rocks at the school children as they all run out into the street, scared, burned and scarred…. MY AMERICA, sound very much like the inner most thoughts of a serial killer dreaming.
It’s brutal, mind crushingly heavy and very, very angry…
Barely tuned guitars crash against slams of drums bigger than Mount Rushmore, vocals like a demon baring his black bitter soul to the world mix with basslines so sludgy and deathly that the blood in your veins will run cold and viscous.
This is music to violate the universe to.
My America… could very well be the most fucked up, fucked off people on Earth… and with an album this affecting, I say give them the presidency and let them get to work…
We need music like this… it is utterly devoid of hope and is heavy as a motherfucker.
In a word…. Essential."

"MAIWTD is musically similar to a stripped down Breather Resist with a touch of Refused thrown into the mix at times. The tracks are driven by the omnipresent gritty bass lines, leaving the sole guitar to often layer on syncopated single note riffs and basic, but catchy melodies. While many bands focus on trying to pack in as many notes as possible to achieve that chaotic sound, MAIWTD focuses on varying the rhythm structures for their brand of hardcore. The vocalist sticks to a high-pitched scream, which is perfectly appropriate for the style of music, and since the disc is over in around 26 minutes, it doesn't have the chance to become annoyingly monotonous."
