Watermead Music was formed in 1992, primarily to share new music that was being composed for liturgical celebrations in a Catholic parish - with their first hymn, "Our Song Gives Praise", written especially for a celebration of Church Music through the ages on National Music Day. Initially, they only intended to produce sheet music and were pleasantly surprised when a demonstration cassette became popular and they found themselves making more recordings - this time for the listening market.
Watermead Music has developed to form the Watermead Publishing Apostolate - sharing its recordings and sheet music alongside the prayer books, greeting cards and stationery inspired by the music.
