Love makes a real man strong, not weak.  Weak men fear it.  Real men serve it.

The first time I was in college, I paid my tuition by doing old-fashioned, handmade natal astrological charts and delineations.

The Sun has astrologically progressed into the sign of Libra, the Scales or Balance, which is associated with the weighing of things and assessing their value.  The planet traditionally assigned rulership over Libra is Venus, the planet associated with love, art, and beauty.  In the Northern Hemisphere, it is the time of the Autumnal Equinox where everyone has reaped what they have sown many months ago, and now there is a reckoning of their hard work and of the worth of what they have produced.  Libra is a time when we make decisions--rational, sometimes hard decisions--about relationships, intimate, social, or business, a time when justice must be served, where balance must be restored in ourselves and in the situations of our lives.  Action demands to be taken: action that restores harmony, beauty, happiness, righteousness.  Creative solutions and communications are strong in the nature of Libra/Venus, as is dignity and grace, without yielding to weakness in resolve.  The power of persuasion is emphasized.

Lovely Lady Godiva's deliberate riding through town naked upon a horse was a very shocking, but strong, protest against the injustices being forced upon the poor by heavy taxation on their goods by those of her own class: the aristocracy.  She felt the poor would have to go about naked under their increased burden of expenses.  It was known in advance that she would be wandering the streets without clothes, and it is said that no one in town looked upon her out of respect for her dignity, except for one man named Tom; this is the origin of the phrase "Peeping Tom."

THERE ARE AT LEAST THREE "SCHOLARLY" INTERPRETATIONS OF THE ANCIENT CELTIC CALENDAR

These are the warm celebrations of the Autumnal Equinox, or "The Lights of the Water," where we paid special attention to our nature shrines, made toasts to the trees who are giving us such a beautiful show again at this time of year -- and who give us so much year 'round.  We drank libations to the deities and offered what you now call "cornucopias" to them and to those special to us.

May you have reaped plenty from your labours and tended to your spiritual centres in order to weather the coming months in comfort.

    Alban Elved Blessings.

My favourite celebration is, of course, Kharisteria or "The Thanksgiving" which began after the amazing defeat of the Persians at Marathon, a battle in which I was an officer as a young man.  Additionally, the month of September is when a united Greece finally defeated the Persians after decades of conflict in a pair of epic, celebrated three-day battles of which I was the architect of the land and sea defences: Thermopylae/Artemisium and Plataea/Salamis.  Please read my page about these important events where a small group of determined, committed, well-prepared people prevailed against incredible odds.  Never forget, there ARE things worth fighting to the death for.  There ARE.  Every noble and reasonable person needs to know what things are worth life to him or her.  What is worth it to you?

I used to devote a column to astrological data on the page, but I've decided to do a monthly message instead to reach out to my friends, rather than expecting them to stop by.  The first time I was in college, I paid my tuition by doing old-fashioned, handmade natal astrological charts and delineations.

The Sun has astrologically progressed into the sign of Virgo, the Maiden, traditionally respresented by a goddess with wheat sheaves, associated with the Harvest Season in the Northern Hemisphere.  The planet traditionally assigned rulership over Virgo is Mercury.  Virgo thus represents the fullness of a bounty that is about to be claimed, thus the association with virginal goddesses.  With the Sun in Virgo, it is a time to reap what you have sown this year, for better or worse, a time to attend to details and to focus on hard work, apply your practical smarts to things and decision-making for the coming Fall and Winter, to be concerned with health and well-being, to socialize with co-workers and neighbors, and a time to write, communicate, and teach.

Xochiquetzal is the ancient Aztec goddess of harvest, and the crop especially associated with her is the food of the gods: cacao, from which chocolate is made.  It's rough to celebrate chocolate while also tending to health and well-being, but I'll try hard to work it out.

In the early agenda of the male-dominated church (starting with the disciples) and in later Bowdlerizations of the New Testament, references to females being equal partners, leaders of the early church, equally loved and cherished, and equally capable of evangelism were always being minimized.  Now you have to be a determined student to find the hidden clues that remain.

In your modern world, you are put upon and denied as well.  Don't listen to them.  You are daughters of the Lord, brides of Christ, worthy and beautiful.

In the left column of the page this month and last, I mention how women are so wrongly devalued.  You are the most beautiful creations of Our Father, and you are also the strongest.

With Love to You, My Sweet Sisters,
    B-Jesus

In late August of 371 B.C., I broke the professional, constantly training Spartan Army, with a much smaller force of dedicated fathers, brothers, and sons wanting to keep their loved ones free.  Sparta never recovered to rise again in their oligarchic, militaristic, narcissistic ways.  It was the battlefield at Leuctra where it happened.  You can read about it on my page.

It was also late August or the first week of September of 362 B.C. where I died on the battlefield at Mantinea, continuing to fight beside my men, despite grievous javelin wounds.  I was lost, but the battle was won.  You can read about that on my page too.

THERE ARE AT LEAST THREE SCHOLARLY INTERPRETATIONS OF THE ANCIENT (PRE-ROMAN, PRE-CHRISTIAN) CELTIC CALENDAR.  LAMMAS FALLS APPROXIMATELY SIX WEEKS AFTER THE SUMMER SOLSTICE AND THE RISE OF SIRIUS

Lammas is the ancient festival that celebrates the first grain harvest of the year. It is also known as Lughnasadh, the festival of Lugh, the good-natured sun god, who has been near us, burning long and bright, but who now will begin his retreat from us as the daylight hours grow shorter and we approach the Autumnal Equinox. One of our greatest fire festivals, Lammas/Lughnasadh included burning wheels of fire sent tumbling down hills as a metaphor for the sun king's slow departure from us.
