| About Watson Park (THANK YOU!!) |
It’s hard to find a band that truly appreciates having the opportunity to play music every time they get together.
The northern Kentucky based Indie/Pop/Rock band Watson Park is one of these hard-to-find groups. In November 2006, drummer Nate Staggs was diagnosed with Leukemia, which kept him far from even thinking about picking up a drumstick. The band was forced to go on hiatus for a while.
Luckily, in late 2007, Staggs went into remission and rejoined the band, bringing the electric sound back in to full swing. Based on his experience, all four members of Watson Park realize how fragile life is and appreciate the opportunity of playing music together. “It’s a blessing in disguise,” bassist Scott Singleton mentions. “I’ve always loved playing with a band, but Nate’s battle with cancer has made us all love playing even more. Every time we play a show, it’s as if we’re giving the world hope…hope that anyone who is battling with or knows someone battling cancer can pull through and win the fight.”
In the summer of 2007, Watson Park put on the first annual Rock the Benefit concert, in support of the Leukemia Research Foundation. They raised over $1200 to donate to the foundation, and are hoping to raise even more at the 2nd annual RtB concert on November 1, 2008. Lead vocalist and guitarist Philip Dunn adds, “We felt it was our opportunity to finally pull together with everyone in the community, raise some money, and beat this terrible killer. So many people have been diagnosed or know someone who has been diagnosed with some kind of cancer. It’s something everyone can unfortunately relate to and it’s time for it to end.”
By the end of June 2008, Watson Park had completed their second National tour, which stretched from Kentucky down to Florida, and then out west to California where Dunn played a part in Ingrid Michaelson’s new music video for her song Be OK and joined The Militia Group records for a 3-day run at the Vans Warped Tour.
Watson Park just recently acquired management through SeaGote Management and Artist Services and is planning on touring shortly after their 3rd full-length album is released in early 2009. Staggs comments, “It’s an exciting time for the band. I’m even more excited about what’s to come in the next year.”
