About me:

Join us for our groundbreaking 2007/08 season dedicated entirely to new play development. Featuring works presented as part of The Langston Hughes Project, EdgeFest’s 2008 LA History Project and Black Words on White Pages. Each project will undergo an intensive development process and culminate in public workshop readings presented across Los Angeles.

Black Words on White Pages
A new play development series established in 2005/06, Black Words on White Pages provides resources and a venue to emerging Los Angeles-based playwrights of color whose artistic voices speak to the concerns of race, culture and politics.

June 2008
We are proud to announce that WVTC has been invited to participate with five Los Angeles-based ensemble theater companies in EdgeFest’s 2008 LA History Project festival. The project will address the history of the unionization of the teaching profession and its significance to public education.

The Langston Hughes Project
Written by Lynn Manning

May 2008
Due to the ongoing report of violence between African-Americans and Latinos, WVTC has set out to highlight and build upon positive historic examples of collaborations between these two communities. This project will explore a year Langston Hughes lived and worked in Mexico with his father between 1920-1921. The time Langston Hughes spent immersed in Mexican culture influenced his writing and played a part in his contributions to the Harlem Renaissance. There will be a full staged production of the work scheduled for spring 2009.
