  • Bio

WAVE ARRAY is a Bay Area-born rock band whose sound has brought a new perspective to the San Francisco music scene since 2007. With an eclectic variety of songs, the group's music is known for its catchy melodies and hard-hitting jams that stretch the limits of indie and alternative rock. The group came together in 2007 when Johan Alfsen and Nich Pak, who previously played together in the band echolocation, reformed with singer/songwriter Strom Lee. With Pak’s unique guitar style and Lee’s catchy melodies, melded together by Alfsen’s solid bass work, the three immediately began to write interesting songs that took on a fresh new sound. The musical influences in the group ranged anywhere from Pink Floyd and The Beatles to Doves and Pinback. The combination of various musical perspectives in the group gave rise to the name Wave Array, which has been described as “an array of sound waves.” Tucked away in the small orchard town of Pleasant Hill, in the valley of the East Bay Area, the group found residency in a home that has served as Wave Array’s studio and playground for the past three years. Later dubbed “The No-Hassle Castle,” the studio has allowed the group to refine their unique sound and experiment with recordings. It was there that they recorded their first EP in 2007, which then led to the first of many West Coast tours. In 2009, Wave Array released their first full-length album, entitled “Cheapjack Moon.” With hard-hitting songs like “Traffic” and melodic ballads like “The Allegory”, the album and the band’s live performance have demanded attention. The group is currently working on two new EPs and gearing up for a tour, slated for the spring of 2011. Songs from their new EP like “Goldin Girl,” inspired by a fixture in the popular San Francisco venue The Hotel Utah, have been released digitally on their website, and have already received buzz in the local music community. ........ .. ..Press:.... .. .."Aesthetically, Wave Array has created music that defines and transcends barriers of privacy that harbor human emotion and self-reflection.".. - Tanya Fuller, Performer Magazine .... .."Like a more psychedelic Spoon or a more shambolic Pinback...The East Bay band’s debut politely ignores prevailing trends".. - Nate Seltenrich, East Bay Express .... .."[Wave Array] create a powerful, fresh sound that builds on the past and adventurously anticipates the future.
