Two of my most promising students-Liam Ledgeway(16)and George Magrath(17) got through to the finals of the BEAT 2007 drum competition and performed at The Crucible Theatre on 23/6/2007.The finalists were whittled down from over 300 applicants nationally.
So to get 2 students through to the last 15 was fantastic!
Both played brilliant and very musical solos. The competition was very tough, with 13 other very talented young drummers taking part and only 4 prizes up for grabs!
I'm pleased to say that George came 2nd in the whole competition but Liam (this time!) missed out-I'm exceedingly proud of both of them!!
Look out for an interveiw with George and Liam in the Nov. issue of 'The Talk' magazine

Started playing drums at the age of 9 (Dad bought me a pair of sticks, practice pad and a book!) Then got a real kit at the age of 13.
So people who can't do the math, been playing (kit) for 25 years.
Drum tuition is my main work, though playing live and session work come a close second.
I've been teaching now for 17 years and work mainly in many of York's secondary schools but also teach at 2 private schools in the area and have several private students, who study at home.
I've opened my own Teaching Studio It is based at 'Melrose Yard Studios' in York.It also has facilities for Guit/Vocal teaching too! For more details Click Below

Lol Dave, no offence taken. :-) I've seen them both live now and as a mere onlooker, Roger shades it for me - But obviously they are both fantabulous! Anne :-)
Hi Dave Saw a brilliant drummer last night. Went to see Queen - Roger Taylor has to be the best drummer in the world (apart from you of course LOL!) I always thought Phil Collins was the best but he isn't in the same league!!! Have you seen him live? - if not go see him and Queen they're superb! :-) Anne x
Thanks for a great night of dancing on Thurs, Dave. The band ROCKED! Had a brilliant time - although my knee is a bit sore (arthritis - old age is not fun! :-( ) - was dancing last night too to OMD at Echo arena LOL! Take care and see you at The Bedford. Anne xx
yeah well il probably just play along to a backing track for a grade 8 piece then. im going down to brighton to audition rather than sending a recording. all of the ones ive found so far sound great, the ICMP in london prides itself on being the best drum institute in europe apparently! anyway cheers for your help and hope the drum school gets off to a good start!
Hi Dave, long time no see! hope you are you doing well. im currently sorting out which uni to go to after ive done my a levels and im keen on doing a drumming degree. ive found a few places, The institute of contempory music performance in london, a place called drumtech also in london and Brighton institute of modern music. just wondered if you knew of any other places i could look at. also, ive booked an assessment at the brighton institute and i have to play a 2 - 4 minute piece, should i play something like a grade 8 piece or try to write something of my own? cheers
