The sweet harmonious juju that is Wavy Space began around a campfire in north Georgia in the summer of 2008 where melodies of one guitarist and one singer/songwriter came together to produce a righteous blend of funk, "smooth" ballads, "emotional, soulful" blues, and "butt-kicking" rock" Though strangers they were, the vocals of the reflective and fiery Shana Blake and the riffs of the funky guitarist Arrie Bozeman synchronized and synergized into the soul of the new alliance that was to come.
Shortly after the chance meeting, Bozeman excitedly moved from her hometown of Decatur, Georgia to Blakes hometown, Charlotte NC. where Blake had already built a solid reputation with the popular group The Near Misses and was judged Creative Loafing's 2001 Critic's Choice Best Female Vocalist. Penniless but full of hope and ambition, the two recruited bassist Jeanine Conroy, drummer Jamie Brock, and saxophonist Brady Butler to round out the newly formed band. The name Wavy Space was adopted as a metaphor for their shared belief in music as a metaphysical conduit connecting souls and expressing what words cannot. Notoriety was quick to come as evidenced by the March 2009 signing of the group’s first single song contract for a commercial advertising jingle. A soon to be released media blitz for a national organization will feature a composition written by Blake and performed by the band. Summer 2009 saw the group opening for the one of the Charlotte Symphony's Summer Pops concert series. Keeping up the tempo, Shana, Arrie, and company are presently in the studio recording their upcoming premiere CD. It is easy to see why critics quickly proclaimed Wavy Space one of Charlotte's (North Carolina) most promising new musical acts. Music Review - Wavy Space & friends rock the Evening Muse
Oct 28th 2009 –"It never seems to fail that a musical performance by Wavy Space turns into a down home party worthy of a mountain festival! Joined by several friends, the Charlotte group was joined by several friends producing an Americana rock vibe which was heavy on the percussions led by James Brock, balanced by the capable guitar work of Arrie Bozeman and taken skyward by the soulful vocals of Shana Blake – the voice of an angel." "Turning up the volume, the pace, the energy and the party atmosphere, Wavy Space went through a set of upbeat rock ‘n roll numbers including "Soul Transfusion", "Repeat Offender" and "Wanted", keeping the house mostly on its feet. Over the past two years we’ve witnessed an ongoing improvement in the technical abilities of Arrie Bozeman on electric guitar. She’s become more nimble, cleaner in her rifts and more confident in her delivery. Tonight she added another dimension with an acoustic performance I had not previously seen and she did it beautifully. Watching young musicians grow in their abilities and spread their wings as performers is what makes following live music most enjoyable. Over the past two years it has been wonderful watching this Atlanta native and current Charlotte musician thrive and grow – well done Arrie! " Photos of the nights performance "As the Gusher show at the Neighborhood Theatre came to a close several people wandered over to the Muse. Hearing Wavy Space, they quickly filled the remaining empty seats as they were captivated by the vocals of Shana Blake and the overall festive sounds coming from the stage. Having no late show scheduled allowed Wavy Space to carry their party and fans into the night. As the midnight hour approached they wound up the long set to a full room, standing ovation, and the hoots and hollers of their enthusiastic supports and fans. A well deserved conclusion to a wonderful night of music." Monty Chandlerr Charlotte Music Examiner St. Patty's Day celebration at The Evening Muse "Shana Blake, Arrie Bozeman, Jeanine Conroy and Jamie Brock make up the talented Charlotte rock, funk, blues band Wavy Space who were the third course of this musical festival on St. Patty's Day in the Queen City. Tonight the band were joined by the talented Sax player Brady Butler - hopefully a future full time addition to the band! Together the band rocked the house to complete the St. Patty's Day celebrations, featuring their very own version of the Irish traditional tune, Danny Boy. I suspect Wavy Space is going to become a lot more visible in the region over the coming months. Keep your eyes out for the show bookings." Monty Chandler Charlotte Music Examiner Wavy Space to be the regular TMRM band "We are pleased to announce that you will be hearing the music of Wavy Space (formerly, Soul Survivor) in the near future. This is a new group lead by Shana Blake, Arrie Bozeman, and Jeanine Conroy that ventured into the TMRM world and plan to continue. As we say, come to the show and you'll get addicted - just ask Trip, Jeff, Doran, Anna, and the crew. Shana and Arrie came to the program October and announced the new group name, Wavy Space, on the same taping night. The eclectic combination of Shana's singing and Arrie's guitar are excellent. I could listen to Shana sing all day. Her musical diversity is something to be heard - blue grass to Ava Maria to blues - Great! These women are a real musical treat. NEWS - At the January 28th taping session, Wavy Space agreed to be the regular TMRM band going forward. As part of this announcement, we are planning a special dedicated to them. Stayed tuned for it sometime in April 2009." Benjamin Copeland The Modern Renaissance Man Charoltte, NC "If you haven't caught the new TMRM band, Soul Survivor, you are missing out! The all women band is the latest addition to the cast of TMRM and has been an extremely lucky find for the show. The band members are Shana Blake (vocals), Arrie Bozeman (guitar), and Jeanine Conroy (Bass). This is some of the greatest talent TMRM has had and some of the best talent you will find in the Charlotte area." Benjamin Copeland The Modern Renaissance Man Charoltte, NC "Here's a heads up on a not-to-miss show later this month at The Double Door Inn. Charlotte's talented singer-songwriter with the velvet voice Shana Blake, well known in these parts for her work with The Near Misses, The Swizzlers , and Swill, has formed a partnership with Arrie Bozeman of Decatur, GA. This combination of Bozeman's funky harmonies on guitar coupled with Jeanine Conroy on Bass and Cree Love wielding the sticks, results in an awesome complexity of smooth ballads, emotional soulful blues and some butt-kicking rock'n roll under the banner of Soul Survivor. " Monty Chandler Charlotte Music Examiner Charlotte, NC "We've invited this troupe (Wavy Space) in from Charlotte because the mix of vocals and original music that these women weave is a fine force to be reckoned with! Their sound ranges from ballads to rootsy rock and all things good in between. For this appearance, we’ll see 4 women on stage for a harmonious blend that will get your head nodding, your foot tapping, and lead you into a soulful celebration." Papa Mojo’s Roadhouse Durham, N.C.
