Although all from the West Country originally, the band actually met a few years back whilst working in a recording studio in Brighton. First gigs came via the local electronic music collective Spirit of Gravity, of which the band are among the founding members. The experimental electronic nights drew in a wide array of local talent, and other collective members include UK Spazz junglist Shitmat and electronica artist Same Actor. The basis of early live Waxed Apple shows was experimentation and improvisation. Utilising eclectic samples, live hip hop drums, combined with strummed and bowed violin played through live looping pedals and effects, and even a turntable playing lock-grooves, these early gigs were the testing ground for the more concrete ideas that form the current apple sound. With a new bass player added to the mix last summer, the new sound has evolved in to powerful, bass heavy groove, but a groove that is now cut together with dirty electric violin, live electronic drums, and even hacked Atari games consoles and bleepy commodore 64s.
As well as whipping up a storm throughout their adopted hometown, gigs have included the Post-Garage, Austria, The Rockit Festival in Hong Kong, Guilfest, Glastonbury, the Beautiful Days Festival, headlining at Cargo (London), supporting Ozomatli, LCD Soundsystem and Gold Chains and Prefuse 73.
