Little Rock native Wayland Holyfield wrote "Arkansas (You Run Deep in Me)" for Arkansas' Sesquicentennial celebration under commission from Arkansas Power & Light Company.
Wayland Holyfield is recognized as one of Nashville's top songwriting talents. His abilities have earned him 31 ASCAP and BMI awards in the past ten years. He has written a total of 28 top five hits and 13 number one records, and was ASCAP's "Country Songwriter of the Year" in 1982.
His music has been performed by such artists as Anne Murray, Julio Iglesias, Lee Greenwood, Waylon Jennings, T.G. Sheppard, Reba McIntire and the Oak Ridge Boys.
Several other Arkansas natives who are now working in the music business wither as songwriters, producers or artists, joined Wayland on the chorus.
They and their hometowns are: Steve Dean (Little Rock), Rhonda Fleming (Fort Smith), Dave Gibson (El Dorado), Libby Hurley (Clarksville), Wood Newton (Hampton), John Reid (Osceola), and Mark Wright (Fayetteville).
This recording was produced by Wayland Holyfield. Other noted Nashville music industry personnel who participated were Bill Harris, Engineer; Bergen White, String Arrangement; and Brent Rowan, Session Leader.
