Hello there, my name is Wayne Morgan and I'm a bass player and composer. I've been playing the bass since I was 12 years old. My first serious band was called Hallelujah Day. We were a bunch of young musicians who met at Leigh College of Music in 1989. Things went really well and we subsequently ended up signing a dodgy contract with Chrysalis Records. Nothing ever came of that I'm afraid. But, there was a bright light at the end of the tunnel. That bright light was called Pele. Who are now called Amsterdam. I got a phone call from their manager in 1994 inviting me to audition because they needed a new bass player. I went to the audition at Crash rehearsal studios in Liverpool and got the gig. And what a gig it was. I loved being in Pele and we should of been gigantic, but yet again the power of the record company managed to balls all that up. Thanks Polydor. Anyway I had a great time and did some amazing gigs all over Europe. Since Pele and Amsterdam I've been going steady playing in a great function band called City Lights. I've also been busy doing sessions and writing my own material so I can eventually retire in the south of France. In between doing a degree in music at Salford University I've done some gigs with China Crises and Pete Wylie. The Pete Wylie gigs were cool especially when Mick Jones from The Clash got up and played a couple of tunes with us. My steady job nowerdays is playing Bass & deputy MD for The original Drifters " the real ones signed to Atlantic" & what a brilliant gig & honour the is. Yep i love being a Bass Player :-}
Oh so you're a Steve Gadd fan then too? you should watch the video of gadd, weckl and colaiuta on youtube, AMAZING. Thanks for everything i'm slowly making my way upward lol!
We're off on tour when I can find out when my favourite funkiest bass player is not on a world tour with The American Drifters. Will I be waiting a life time or shall I book the tour bus for sometime next year?
Thanks for the comment. I'm getting together with Phil Wright (I believe you know him) tomorrow, the idea being that I play looping guitar stuff with him on percussion.
I hope things are going well for you, both musically and otherwise.
