WAZOBIA STORY!!
Wazobia means Come in three African languages. Yoruba, hausa, and Ibo.
Wa in Yoruba means Come, Zo in Hausa means come, and Bia in Ibo means come. all joined together to form a new word WA ZO BIA (Come Together)
Wazobia band was formed in Houston Texas in 1984 by Dr king Cobra. His original idea was to form a college Reggae/African music band to entertain the
the rapidly increasing number of African and West Indian students then at Texas Southern University, The University of Houston, and the Houston Community College System.. In 1984 the band consisted of Cobra, the founder , plus Cameroonian bass player / TSU physics & maths major-Pablo Tabe Besong, Ghanaian guitarist and U of H criminal justice major Kofi Newman. Nigerian born drummer and TSU Business Admin major Joe Okonedo. In 1986 with the untimely death of bass player Pablo. and Okonedo's departure to DC for Grad school, WAZOBIA band was forced to make changes in the line up. Kofi switched from guitar to bass and 3 new members were added. First was drummer Daryl Birch ( later replaced by Ras CODY KUTI), Terry Emdin on Guitar and lastly Lee Carey from U of H on saxophone & percussions.
This aggregation lasted for over 10yrs and within this period, the band released the "SEEDS OF DEMOCRACY" CD(produced by Dr. Cobra) Shared the stage with just about every who is who on the reggae/worldbeat roster. Toured the Americas extensively. Won the Houston Public News music award and the HOUSTON Press Music award. Also by this time both Cobra and Kofi had finished Graduate school in Houston. Bassist/band manager Kofi Newman had to move to OHIO for his Post graduate program at Ohio state Univ. Cobra stayed back in Houston for his Post Graduate program thereby keeping the name WAZOBIA very much alive.(for a while).
At the turn of the century the band yet lost another member. Guitarist and vocalist Terry Emdin detoured , while Dr. Cobra spent this trying period building a solo career with a new outfit called DR. KING COBRA & THE BUSH DOCTORS. This band has gained the respect of audiences across the south west region of the USA, and stands on its own as a unique and separate worldbeat band. Now Dr. King Cobra has redirected his energy to reassembling the WAZOBIA band and producing the "roots of democracy" CD. , The New WAZOBIA is Dr. King Cobra - Keys and almost original member Naphtali on drums, Christian on bass and Tony X & Pedro on guitars. Gerry on percussion. Lee Carey still original member on saxophones.
Right now the band is at the Texas Dublab working on the new ROOTS of Democracy CD. ReleASE date is set for fall 2007 or spring 2008.
This is a milestone for the group.

Give thanks for the breath of life dear father, I called tonight To talk a little while I need a friend who'll listen To my anxiety and trial. You see, I can't quite make it Through a day just on my own... I need your love to guide me, So I'll never feel alone. I want to ask you please to keep My family safe and sound. Come and fill their lives with confidence For whatever fate they're bound. Give me faith, dear God, to face Each hour throughout the day, And not to worry over things I can't change in any way. I thank you God for being home And listening to my call, For giving me such good advice When I stumble and fall. Your number, God, is the only one That answers every time. I never get a busy signal, Never had to pay a dime. So thank you, God, for listening To my troubles and my sorrow. Good night, God, I love You too, And I'll call again tomorrow!
"But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His Kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides" (Matthew 6:33 AMP).
Today's Word
What are you aiming at and striving for in life today? Are you seeking first His Kingdom? The Bible says that His Kingdom is righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. When you seek righteousness, which is God's way of doing things, you are seeking the Kingdom. When you seek peace, both in your heart and in your relationships with others, you are seeking the Kingdom. When you choose joy and invite the Holy Spirit to direct your steps, you are seeking the Kingdom. And just as this verse says, when you make God's Kingdom a priority, all things will be given to you. What are all things? That's everything else. That's provision. That's health. That's strength. That's direction. If you've been putting other things first, make the decision right now to change and seek God's way. Put His Kingdom first. As you do, you'll begin to experience fulfillment and peace in every area of your life!
"Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him" (Matthew 6:8).
God knows what you need before you even pray about it. God is ready and waiting but we have to do our part. Our job is to find the answer in the Word and confess it to Him, knowing that He honors what He has said, and it WILL come to pass.
