HOW IT WORKS:
Artist sign-up begins at 6:30pm for a 2-song performance slot. It is recommended that performers arrive to get in line as early as possible as the slots often fill up quickly. Time slots for performances are offered on a first-come first-serve basis. “Philly Rising” begins at 7PM and ends at 11PM. Each performance is judged by someone from the WCL music department, the manager on duty and the host of the event, with a standout act selected each week. On occasion, a featured act (not eligible to win) will perform a short set during the event.
Each month, the weekly winners from the previous month are invited back to participate in CREAM: “The Best of Philly Rising”, where each artist performs a full set. At each monthly showcase, a panel of judges will select a single winning act to be awarded the monthly prize package.
At the end of the year, all monthly winners will compete in the annual “Cream of the Cream” showcase on the main stage in Downstairs Live and one winning act will receive the Annual Grand Prize Package. Members of the local media and music industry will be present at the event to capture this momumental showcase of Philly’s fastest rising new talent.
ATTENTION FULL BANDS:
You are required to use the venue’s backline, which includes a drum set, a guitar
amplifier and a bass amplifier. (Discuss your technical requirements with the host of the event at the time of sign-up)
*NOTE: On occasion, the venue is forced to postpone the signup time or cancel this event due to private events or public concerts. Please check the dates and times listed on the official World Cafe Live "Philly Rising" page for these rare exceptions.
