A book for our time. I wrote the novel, "Margaret and David: A Love Story" a few years ago. It is about America after its second civil war. The Muslims have gained control of the government. It is an interracial love story against the backdrop of a movement, akin to the civil rights movement many decades past, only this time it is the white population struggling for equality and freedom . . . Margaret, black college student meets and falls in love with David, the white population's "Messiah." Against all odds they fight for what is right. Read the full review on my page . . . Latest review for DIVERTING THE BUDDHA (The Skewering of Democracy)

"DIVERTING THE BUDDHA is an ambitious novel that delivers through a vivid portrayal of the treachery and deceit that emerged during the catastrophic Vietnam War. Bob Swartzel wastes little time in immersing his readers in a chaotic world where poor innocent people are caught between a corrupt Vietnamese leadership, as well as the self-interest of a few profiteers and an American foreign policy gone amok. Among the many achievements of this novel is Swartzel’s ability to provide his readers with a realistic sense of the historical setting the characters inhabit. It also vividly captures the chaotic theater of war where we witness a gritty epoch of guns, politics, treachery and economic self-interest.

No doubt there are many novels pertaining to the Vietnam War, however, this one stands out as an unforgettable tale at its most emotional and painful with its multiple perspectives pertaining to the politics and history recounted in human terms.

Please Help Save Our Theatre. In 2001, Victor Sobchak and Andy McQuade founded a theatre company at the Lion and Unicorn in Kentish Town. Over the years we have supported young actors, new writers, up and coming directors and entertained many thousands of people with bold and original theatre.
In June, 2008, George Sallis, an actor who Sobchak gave his first theatre break to, surreptitiously contacted the owners of the Lion and Unicorn and offered them large amounts of money to take over the theatre. The owners accepted. It was an offer Victor Sobchak wasn't able to match.
We're fighting back.
Please sign our petition and help make a strike for what is good and right in this world.
Many thanks
http://www. ipetitions. com/petition/boycottthelionandunicorntheatre/

If you care about theatre - or just hate it when the rich think they can own anything they want - at the expense of other people's lives and happiness, PLEASE pass this on to those you know will care too.

With love and gratitude
Andy

Latest review for DIVERTING THE BUDDHA (The Skewering of Democracy)

“This complex and deftly plotted novel examines a massive assault on a people crying out for democracy. It chronicles a time when American efforts to build democracy produced an apocalyptic disaster. While the author spares none of the grisly details of this repression, his special powers of language also brings his characters and their complex world vividly to life. The story leads its readers inside pagodas, university halls and military posts, all venues with which the novelist is perfectly familiar. The major theme of this novel is betrayal—of democratic aspirations, of the American public, of truth itself.

After being found in the Bermuda Triangle, Avreona Heavenborn grows up to become the most hated and feared women in The Unknown World, the captain of Multiple Incorporated. Multiple Incorporated is the biggest industry of crime fighters to ever exist, and every single day she takes justice by storm with her partner, Rainer Jay McCoy.

Rainer has more secrets than she even does. Lucky for him, the dead don’t talk. Or do they?? Avreona can see ghost. And speak to them. Which is just one of her many phenomenal abilities as an Unknown.

Avreona’s never trusted anyone. After all, there’s a reason why the Fool in the Tarot means trust. But what would really happen if she were to let her defense’s down just once? Why don’t you ask all the hit men who are trying to assassinate her. Including The 86er, the biggest and baddest hit man in all The Unknown World.
Will she survive?? Not even the ghost know that one.

"Ticking" is the first book in "The Heaven Born Series".
