The seed for WeAreChange Hempstead was planted when the two founding members attended the Independence Day street action held by WAC NYC at Ground Zero and Times Square (Meetup #911). That seed soon sprouted as more joined the cause and the chapter debuted by handing out DVDs and fliers, while marching in the WeAreChange '09 9/11 Truth March with our fellow brothers and sisters. We have given out close to 10,000 DVDs and are showing no sign of slowing down.
Our claimed territory is the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County on Long Island, which contains such notable locations as Jones Beach, Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, and Roosevelt Field Mall.
The Town of Hempstead is historically notable for being the source of much of the hemp products that help build this nation (for example the first American flags, Colonial Army uniforms, and even The U.S. Constitution was made of hemp). George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were known to travel to Hempstead for various seed varieties for their plantations.
