ColouringIN are the unlikely lovechild of Love Minus Zero head honcho Tom Neville and opera singer turned electronic-upstart Henry Bennett – a curious collaborative whose effortlessly eclectic melodies are set become the sound of 2009.
With an eagerly anticipated debut album sampler ready to drop, this remarkable fusion of Henry’s classical training and Tom’s house production pedigree has been transformed into a no holds barred live show of dynamic proportions. The vocal line soars over an accompaniment of live electronic drums, an orchestra of 4 synths, a cello, and a trumpet. The live band now consisting of three further members looks set to continue to develop new ways to further enrich the sound with every outing.
This very unique brand of future-romantic pop music pays homage to artists like Depeche Mode and Arthur Russell and has drawn comparisons with Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem, yet the ColouringIN sound still remains refreshingly original. Tracks range from the soulful to the deliciously sleazy, but always with a raucously infectious beat.
The duo first crossed paths in the musical maelstrom of Shoreditch in 2005, and a one-off jam session spawned two years of prolific experimentation. Their collaboration was an immediate success – limited vinyl-only release ‘Robot Restroom’ was laid down at their first studio session, and sold out within 24 hours of its release in September 2007.
‘Robot Restroom’ infected dancefloors across Europe, from Fabric to Space and Berlin’s Watergate, hitting the airwaves on Radio 1 and causing fervour on the blogosphere. With only a handful of live shows to date including their debut outing at BuggedOut!, slots alongside Hot Chip, Jesse Rose, Max Tundra, Rex The Dog, Filthy Dukes, VV Brown, We Have Band, Kissy Sell Out, Tommy Sparks, Animal Collective, Micachu, Little Boots, James Yuill, The Invisible and their very own 'ColouringIN presents...'- a sell out night at the Hoxton Bar and Kitchen, things are looking very promising indeed.
With the EP set for release in 2009 already attracting attention from major and indie labels alike, ColouringIN will be commandeering a club near you very soon…
