   About Cool As Folk
Cool As Folk is a live music night at Sheffield University's Raynor Lounge.

We like:

live music (a lot)
classic films on the projector
having a hoe-down
having a sit-down, on the floor
flowers, cakes, doilies, and other ridiculously twee things
playing your requests
sweets that get stuck in your teeth

Here's a list of the artists/groups who've played for us since March '06 [NOT FINISHED !]:

@ FUSION (EAT YOUR GREENS): Liam Frost, Liz Green, Eddie Harrison

@ THE RAYNOR LOUNGE: Slow Club, Louis Romegoux, Little Glitches, Fazzini, Little Lost David, Monkey Swallows The Universe, Paul The Girl, Micky P Kerr, Shady Bard, David Thomas Broughton, St. Nicholas, Indigo Moss, Jonjo Feather, Thomas Western, Eugene McGuinness, Nat Johnson, Looly and the Moos, Lucy and the Caterpillar, Serious Sam Barrett, The Rosie Taylor Project and Noah & the Whale

@ THE FOX AND DUCK
Laura Groves, Benjamin Wetherill, The Wasted Opportunities, Carl Woodford, Tim Fletcher, Pete Greenwood, Jordan Senior and Tom Baxendale, George Pringle, Sam Isaac, The Listeners, Jake Flowers, Neil Burrell, Trefor Jones

We like it when people ask us to DJ at their nights. It makes us feel all warm inside. Thank you: Pony Sunday, Beast in the Cellar, Fuzz BBQ, Fuzztival, The Boardwalk, Bungalows & Bears.

If you would like to play at Cool As Folk, send us a message.

Hello folks! Just wanted to alert you to the final PPY shows before Christmas.
Having a little break here but not before this belter!

The biggest show we've done to date takes place on Saturday Oct. 25th at
The Duchess with Canadian country rockers The Sadies returning to York for
the third time. Taking elements of rock'n'roll, surf, garage, country and sixties
rock and still managing to sound just like The Sadies this band have been
wowing audiences for the last fifteen years.

Garth Hudson (The Band), Jon Spencer, Gary Louris, Neko Case, Blue Rodeo
and Heavy Trash have all guested on their records. They are rather bloody
good live. The Federals are supporting and it's a Saturday night. P.A.R.T.Y. O.N.

Tickets for The Sadies from here.

Come join Please Please You on FACEBOOK here.

Cheers, Joe.

what? the folk! & Solid Earth present: Freaks, Ghouls and Graves, a Balkan (ish) flavoured Halloween (ish) knees up at the delightful St Margaret’s church in Whalley Range.

Yessum we’re back. after the monstrous success of Jackson’s Boat, we thought it only right and proper to offer you another helping of profoundly good music in a great venue. We’ve got a rosette for best zombie in show, beer and food from the nice folks at Jam Street and noise from Stumblefunk.

Another co-promo with the brains and muscle that brought Beats, Roots & Leaves back in May - this time tho we de-camp indoors to make the most of the Halloween theme inside a church, with face painters, ghost hunters, a bar provided by Jam Street and a fabulous line-up of musical tricker treats:

Na Zdrove
Na Zdrove is Sheffield's finest Balkan Beats, Gypsy Brass, Russian Ska, Gypsy Dub, Klezmer and Gypsy Punk night. blimey. We’ll ave some of that. We’ll be welcoming their house band and resident DJs - yes indeedy!

Hello folks! Just a quickie to alert you to the forthcoming Please Please You fun we have planned in York.

At The Basement...........

Firstly, Friday night we have a great folk/country/blues show. Time Lag Recording artists Elephant Micah is headlining with his ace lo-fi country-folk songs. He was the recent tour support for Jason Molina which gives you an idea of his style. Last record was described by The Wire as "A beautiful slice of narcoleptic folk that captures the lugubrious nothing-to-do feel of late summer days as well as the slow motion dance of dust in a ray of sunlight." Yup.

Elephant Micah, George Fell, Dallas Boner, The Wayfaring Strangers + Adam Rogowski. Fri. 29th Aug. 8pm, £5.

Also on sale now:

Everyone To The Anderson + Lebanons. Tues. 2nd Sept. 8pm, £5.
(Quality post hardcore from Brighton/Tunbridge Wells!)

Jonquil, This Town Needs Guns + Defcon DJ's. Fri. 19th Sept. 8pm, £5adv.

Lovvers, Calories + Missing Kids, Mon. 6th Oct. 8pm, £5adv.

Helene + Mossyrock. Fri. 17th Oct. 8pm, £5adv.

And at the Duchess............

The Sadies + The Federals. Sat. 25th Oct. 7.30pm, £10adv.
