| About DISTRESS |

Rewind to 2005. Five young men with hope, dreams and a shed full of gear. 5 young men who set out write the music they wanted to write and show it off to as many people as possible. “We played 50 shows in that first year which was a lot for a band as young as us,” says front man Scott Harris of the time. The hard work paid off though and supports alongside their international heroes The Lawrence Arms and The Unseen followed, as well as shows with local heavyweights Gyroscope, The Getaway Plan and Something With Numbers, assuring everyone that this was not a waste of their time or effort.
With no professionally released recording under their belts, it was late 2006 when it was decided they’d hit the studio and take their sound to an even wider audience. “At the time we started recording, we had these songs that we loved and couldn’t get enough of,” says Harris. “We were super psyched and ready to do it.” Countless late night drives to the studio and computer crashes followed, and with a major line-up change inevitable, things began to take a turn for the worse. “That was a hard time for all of us, not just within the band,” adds Harris. Ultimately, the band’s debut EP was never completed and never reached stores, and although they should have been worried, it turned out as a blessing in disguise. “We learnt a very important lesson with all that,” says Harris, “And that was that you should never rush into things when you’re not ready.”
So with an old batch of songs which they were “getting over anyway” and a new approach to song writing and recording, the band took it slowly, making sure they made all the right decisions. “I think we think over things a lot more now and discuss it as a band as opposed to rushing into anything,” says Harris. “Sure things might take some more time this way but hopefully it pays off in the end.”
Fast forward to 2008. These 5 young men are still setting out to write the music they want to write and show it off to as many people as possible, even though their sound has progressed quite a bit. “I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited about any music I’ve made,” says Harris of the band’s new sound. “It’s great cause we’ve kept the parts which made us original, but we’re tweaking it so that it’s still fresh.”
DISTRESS is the band and “Yes Girl” is the new single. Recorded in a live studio, this song shows off the massive energy that their live show has become known for, but still leaves things open to your imagination. It is available to stream on the band’s MySpace and Facebook page and available by mail order.
