Who are we?

In the midst of a scene dominated by unoriginality, mimicry, and static, My Beloved Tragedy emerges with something new. Borrowing elements of rock, R&B, and country, the Columbus based band brings forth a unique alternative sound infused with passion and emotion.

“So much music out there are just blatant repeats of something someone else has already done,” said Jeffrey E. McCants, lead vocalist. “After a while, it all becomes a big jumble of noise that I think folks are tired of hearing.”

My Beloved Tragedy was envisioned by Jeffrey E. McCants of Detroit, MI and Anthony Dillard of Columbus, OH in their freshmen of college at The Ohio State University. Growing somewhat disheartened by the Columbus rock scene, the two looked to create a kind of rock that was unlike anything anyone had ever heard. Drawing from McCants’ roots in Motown music and Dillard’s love of punk and indie rock, the two set forth on their plan. After numerous auditions and disappointments, the band was completed in December of 2005 with Ash Watkins on bass and Tommy D. playing leads on guitars. David Muncy became a vital piece of the band when he joined in 2008.

“It’s funny because people all ways tell us that they didn’t expect us to sound like we do,” says Dillard, rhythm guitarist. “I always want to know what they think we’re going to sound like.”

The name My Beloved Tragedy stems from people's love in things that hurt them. A woman who fights with her boyfriend even though it pains them both. A man who looks to the end of his relationship instead of the present. What the band hoped to create was music that was realistic.

Having been together for close to three years, My Beloved Tragedy has released their debut 7-track E.P. “This Changes Everything…” (2005) and "Say Goodbye" (2007) in addition to headlining multiple shows around the Columbus Metropolitan Area. The band has opened for artists such as Rookie of the Year and The Spill Canvas, both of One Eleven Records. In addition to them, the band has also opened for Teddy Geiger, The Jurassic 5, and Jason Mraz in Ohio State’s Big Free Concert.

craaaazy amounts of energy last night guys. watching you all made me jealous that i'm not in a band because of the amount of fun you were having... David was defintely a good choice and i liked the upbeat set list... not gonna lie though, i was a little bummed when the last song wasnt one that we knew (specifically 'screaming out'), but it was still all kinds of awesome. can't wait for the next show. FREE is my favorite word.

My drummer (Will Ong) was in the hospital from 7-28 to 8-08 with organized pneumonia, and chronic influencea & boop.

He has tiny holes in his lungs traping air in his chest, throat and sometimes shoulder blades. He had a lung byopsy almost three weeks ago that didn't help with the diagnosis. He also had a chest tube in him for a week along with a bronchoscopy. He eneded up leaving with 3 staples and 12 stitches in on his side along with a nice hole from the chest tube. He is currently home on an oxygen machine for 2 months. The doctors don't know if these holes in his lungs will seal up or if the infection will return so It might be longer.

There are a couple of benefit shows coming up to help Will pay for his $72,000 and rising hospital bill. On top of the several doctors I need to see in the next few weeks.
One of hese shows is 9-12-08 @ the High Five 9pm to Midnight.

If u could come out or help promote this benfit show and support a great drummer, musician and friend it would help out a great deal for Will.

Thanks for your support,

Rob
