In the midst of a scene dominated by unoriginality, mimicry, and static, My Beloved Tragedy emerges with something new. Borrowing elements of rock, R&B, and country, the Columbus based band brings forth a unique alternative sound infused with passion and emotion.
“So much music out there are just blatant repeats of something someone else has already done,” says Chase McCants, lead vocalist. “After a while, it all becomes a big jumble of noise that I think folks are tired of hearing.”
My Beloved Tragedy was envisioned by McCants of Detroit, MI and Anthony Dillard of Columbus, OH in their freshmen of college at The Ohio State University. Growing somewhat disheartened by the Columbus rock scene, the two looked to create a kind of rock that was unlike anything anyone had ever heard. Drawing from McCants’ roots in Motown music and Dillard’s love of punk and indie rock, the two set forth on their plan. After numerous auditions and disappointments, the band was completed in December of 2005 with Ash Watkins on bass and Tommy D. playing leads on guitars. David Muncy became a vital piece of the band when he joined in 2008.
“It’s funny because people all ways tell us that they didn’t expect us to sound like we do,” says Dillard, rhythm guitarist. “I always want to know what they think we’re going to sound like.”
Having been together for close to three years, My Beloved Tragedy has released their debut 7-track E.P. “This Changes Everything…” (2005), full-length "Say Goodbye" (2007) in addition to headlining multiple shows around the Columbus Metropolitan Area. My Beloved Tragedy released their latest effort "Forever.Tonight" in February. The band has opened for artists such as Rookie of the Year and The Spill Canvas, both of One Eleven Records. In addition to them, the band has also opened for Teddy Geiger, The Jurassic 5, and Jason Mraz in Ohio State’s Big Free Concert.
