   About Meg
Meg are Lo-Fi Electro Indie Rock Pop from Kidderminster of all places. Now 5 years young and still containing all original members, Rob Geraghty (guitar/vocals) and Matt Pimm (keyboards/guitars), Tom Games (drums) and Allan Thombs (bass) – all improved and well seasoned from years of gigging. Meg are named after a much loved but somewhat irritating black cat.

Meg’s sound has been described as “Sounding like a cross between Grandaddy and Pavement with analogue keyboards creating a Pac Man fighting Weezer over a Lo-Fi groove”. Meg draw on influences from a weird collection of bands ranging from the mainstream to the obscure and have fashioned a sound that Pete (from And What Will Be Left Of Them?) described in the NME as 'playing music at a slight tangent to the universe'.

Meg were approached by Gavin Monaghan (John Peel Sessions/Idlewild/Mercury Rev/Babes In Toyland) of Magic Garden Studios to record their first demo after watching one of their legendary live shows. The Meg live experience has seen them play from Lancaster University, Aberystwyth University, Bristol and across to the Camden Underworld in London supporting Quasi, Jarcrew & Grandscope among others on the way.

Meg have finished recording 2 EP’s the first of which You’re The Teacher was released at Meg’s 5th birthday party in late 2006. The title track was edited, mixed and mastered by Andy Taylor (Editors, King Adora, Miss Black America). The second EP, Lego Hair EP will be released later this year.

‘I don't know of another band that are quite like Meg. Meg take their time, they like to get things just right - perfectionists and innovators, Meg don't always do what you'd expect them to! I'm shocked, hooked and reeled in now; superb stuff’ Rating : 10. Toxic Pete’s Music Reviews

’So brilliantly indie that it's almost painful. Layers and layers of loud guitars, topped off with some pleasant keyboarding and quiet-loud-quiet-LOUD tunes in true corduroy-flares fashion. Still, Meg certainly are different from pretty much anything you might have heard before. Diehard indie-kids, you're gonna love them. Actually, doesn't matter if you aren't, you just might love them, anyway!’ Miuzik E-Zine

Hey Rob, thanks for the Kiddy culture update! I checked out Ye Old Seven Stars (which was empty) on Saturday night and also the Tap House (which emptied at about 11.00pm even though they've got a late liscence) Having just moved from Brum it's a bit of a culture shock! Do you think there'd be much call for a monthly night in Kiddy featuring more unusual bands/music?

Aug 3 2008 9:09 PM

haha yeh

yeh sunflower lounge is full band (ours is anyway). well we got like 10 people to come to the tardebigge which is annoying to reach, so that should be cool for us

yeh well the barfly is quite prestigious, a friend of mine has played there recently

Aug 1 2008 1:51 PM

Hey Rob, that is rather spooky! Hoping to see you guys on the 22nd in Worcester. Have only just moved to Kiddy. Is there much of a local music scene here or any good music pubs?
Cheerio,

we havnt played in brum yet, but we've got two lined up, one in the adam and eve and one in the sunfolwer lounge. recommend any good places?

and do you get decent crowds in brum?

Jul 24 2008 10:29 PM

Yeah it's a pitty it wasn't amazing but hopefully people there realised it was the sound and not a reflection on you! Yeah I always like the graphics on the screen at the back tis cool. The moving ones play havoc with your head after a couple of vodka and red bulls though!!

Yeah Redditch/Bromsgrove/ Worcester/Birmingham. Love Brum for gigs some wicked venues! If I can there on a bus it's all good! :) I work nights but if i'm not at work i'll come along or if i've got enough notice i'll book it off! Be good to see ya somewhere else with better sound.

I went to see a signed band a few months back they've had one single in the charts and they played the Hare and Hounds in Brum and they were amazing them and the support. Then I saw 'em a week later in Oxford and it was shocking but that was because the sound was way way off. The bands where telling 'em to sort it out but to no avail!

Like you say these things happen! You get good and bad gigs I guess! But thursday was just too loud. They say the windows rattle when they do kareoke!

Jul 24 2008 9:26 PM

Hey Guys,

Thanks for accepting and for your comment. Yeah thursday was only the second time i've seen a band at the Tard but the sound is aweful isn't it? It's a good vibe there but there's serious problems with the sound. You can't hear the words for love nor money without really listening hard. It's terrible. I don't get all the technicalities but even I know the sound was way off what it shoulda been! The first band I saw there I go and see all the time so I knew the songs but you and the other guys were let down big time. Tis a shame.

Next time you play local i'll have try and come along because I got the impression your pretty damn good in the right setting!

See Ya Soon,

yehh i know

erm well its a bit of a pain to get up there, thats the only problem.
we might do, but its easier to play in worcester or birmingham at the moment, because we have to rely on trains
Shquee

Jul 23 2008 9:02 PM

hahahaha dont worry guys, we enjoyed your set

yeh the sound was bad, then at the end the sound man came and told US that we'd doe the sound wrong (even though we had a sound check before hand, and he said it was fine, and its also his job)

but yeh anyway :)
