Supporting Pivot at Nice N Sleazies and winning The Magnus Magnusson Award from Caledonian University. In the coming months we will be featured on The Art Rocker compilation-Sweet FA, The Italian Rolling Stone Magazine as well as the Art Goes Pop compilation to be featured on BBC Radio 1.

They had this to say: nacional seems to derive their energy from the early to mid-eighties magic of bands like the june brides or the wedding present so therefore stand apart quite brightly from todays crop, and all the better for it with two sides of catchy, emotive indie that grab you instantly. already being tipped by xfm and 6 music by the time you read this it'll probably be sold out.
Featured on Steve Lamacq and Colin Murray –Radio 1
“...I urge you to listen to Nacional...their song Yorkshire is an absolute peach...” (Jim Gellatly X F M)
“...good song that!!” (Vic Galloway- Radio Scotland)
The Skinny Review- Telephone/Yorkshire- August proves a lean time for singles, but can anyone emerge gleaming from the garbage? Nick Mitchell gets his ears dirty.......................................................................On cue, Nacional come to the rescue of a damp squib month with Telephone (4stars, 4 Aug). The latest signing to the Art/Goes/Pop label (who've also supported Scottish up-and-comers Popup, Isosceles and The Low Miffs) could do with the full producer treatment, but the raw ingredients are there for a great band - and single of the month.
The Daily Record Review- Nacional - Telephone/Yorkshire-
SPIKY art pop debut from a Glasgow four piece who are like Editors' brighter, happier brothers.
Telephone pleads with a girl to pick up the telephone (maybe if you texted...). Like Blondie's great Hanging On The Telephone the world's most famous method of communication has another great tune written about it. Those cheeky angular Wire-like guitars bite as the rhythms make you dance like Joy Division's Ian Curtis. While you can hear Editors in the music of Robert Armstrong, Jamie Hamilton, Michael O'Hara, Jonny McGiffen and Colin Healy, it's more open and less mealy mouthed with the great lyric: "your mother told me I would never be of any use to you". Yorkshire, the second song on this double A side has the naughty humour of Hull legends The Housemartins coupled with the shouty indie insisteness of Teardrop Explodes. It seems the songwriter has a real problem with mothers. One lyric has: "I just talked to your mother but her face looked like death/it's blue and grey". Not a tune for the wedding then.
bloodshedinthewoodshed- “They're based in Glasgow but are from all over the shop. That's about as much as i know about them to be honest, other than the fact that they're signed to art/goes/pop, have a release in the pipeline and are fanfuckingtastic. I heard one of their tracks a couple of months ago, and completely fell for. i love it.”

Another band I saw this week were Nacional at ABC2. Nacional are on SH's fave record label ever ever ever, Art Goes Pop (http://www.myspace.com/artgoespop) The show was being taped for Radio One; there was a large and somewhat unneccesary BBC trailer outside the venue.
Nacional have definite promise. I've only heard two songs, one on their myspace page, one on an A/G/P sampler, and they were the two best songs of the night. Their expansive guitars would suit a venue better than the ABC2, but they came across well, I hate to use the word 'epic'... but it's hard trying to describe what is in essence a straightforward guitarbassdrumsinger rock band that aim to be more than that.

This was all Mr Vincent's idea. A series of regional playlists showcasing new and exiting bands from different parts of the UK. Vince has decided to start with Scotland and I must say the ten tracks he has selected are seriously good. The one I keep coming back to is 'Yorkshire' by Nacional. This is the first track I've heard by the Glasgow five piece who apparently are signed to the mighty Art Goes Pop label along with fellow Scots Isosceles amongst others.
Nacional - Yorkshire (Art Goes Pop) I think this track sounds excellent. I don't know if they have released anything yet but you can bet your left butt cheek I'm gonna find out.
EP: Nacional - Telephone/ Yorkshire
Amelia's Magazine
It was just another average Saturday. No post had arrived save for a reminder of how much I owe the Student Loans Company. Or so I thought. Then the latest audio offering from Art Goes Pop slid through my letterbox. This envelope, emblazoned with a Nacional sticker, was the one I had been holding out for. Nacional (a Glasgow based quintet of very fine looking lads) have been set to release their first EP for what seems like forever, and finally I had it in my grubby mitts.
They’ve been gigging like demons for over a year (playing every venue known to man, including Glastonbury) and their dedication is reflected in the tightness and maturity which marks the evolution from early MySpace demos to these fully fledged EP tracks.
With a dirty bass line underpinning Telephone, Nacional deliver a brutally honest dissection of a relationship gone wrong. These simple yet heart wrenchingly honest lyrics are sang with such emotive presence that they prove an antidote to the pseudo romanticism offered by those who name check Baudelaire in an attempt to construe lyrical depth.
Having never visited Yorkshire (except through my childhood love for television series Last of the Summer Wine – that’s cool, right?) an ode to the moors and dales might have been expected from their B-side. Instead Yorkshire delivers a dissection of the expectations and mistakes made in adolescence. This tune gets you by the throat within the first twenty seconds and from that point on it soars.
Nacional have produced a majestic EP and I dare you to dislike it.
