From his earliest days We’re Not Cool! aka Mark Allain has been digging in crates and listening to records; already building a collection at the tender age of 12, Mark has never been far from his records and wasn’t surprising anyone when he revealed himself as a talented and innovative DJ.
Talent aside, however, it is Mark’s unrelenting passion and commitment to good music and a jumping dancefloor that has powered him forward, taking him straight from college into underground party ‘Playground’, one of the most exciting music platforms for the budding late 90s tech house and electro scene.
Promoting and DJing at the night, Mark quickly became associated with some of the coolest sounds, artists and venues of the underground scene in London. Taking place across the main and back rooms of Old Street’s 333, The Key, Ministry of Sound, Turnmills, The Egg, Play Bar, Living rooms and JAMM.
Future heroes Switch, Lee Mortimer, Phil Kieran, Funk D’Viod and SOS were just a few of the names that appeared alongside the then called ‘Alex Mark’ on ‘Playground’s flyers.
But soon enough, the Playground just wasn’t big enough for its players including Mark who was soon to leave his ‘Alex Marks’ alias behind. Inspired by a changing seen and the emergence of a second generation of underground parties, We’re Not Cool! was born, fronting a bigger and better sound while still staying true to the upfront, rhythm and bass heavy tunes that first caught everyone’s attention.
“For me the TUNES have got to make the dance floor go crazy otherwise there’s no point?”
After a first appearance as We’re Not Cool! at Smoking Jo and Terry Heats infamous ‘NUDE’ warehouse party back in April of 2007 Mark was officially at the start of a new and exciting part of his career, watched eagerly by those excited by his creative mixing style and forward thinking musical taste.
Sets at ‘On the Rocks’ for Trailer Trash, Ministry of Sound ‘Saturday Sessions’ and Club Aquarium’s Red Light/Wet Yourself followed, leading on to Mark winning the BUGGED Out! 2007 DJ Comp confirming We’re Not Cool! as one of the most significant new talents in underground House music to emerge in recent years, watch this space!
You can catch We're Not Cool 'LIVE' on www.ministryofsound.com/radio co hosting the Saturday Session 60min Party Show with the lovely Belle every Tuesday 4-5pm...
