There are many elements that comprise a great artist ... talent, intuition, heart, balls. Jake Childs has all that and more. The Texas-based Childs is a man of many talents, DJ, tech-house music producer, remixer, multi-instrumentalist, and now he's showing his hand as band-leader. Known Unknown, the debut release by Childs' brand-new project POSR shows the Renaissance dude dropping a smörgåsbord of fresh partytasic electronic thrash on us.
Childs' debut shows a collective of dance and punk minded folks pulling together their respective skills and creating a cohesive sound that is both punk-as-fuck and securely entrenched in the club.
Childs, who has been making music for almost as long as he has been alive, is just now unveiling POSR but the project has already garnered its share of advance acclaim. The group's remix of Tierra Records label-mates Honey Claws, “Honey Claws-Shoutout: POSR Remix,” was featured on RCRDLBL's website and has created a solid online buzz. (As has their bonkers-good remix of The Trucks' “Titties” and their timely revitalization of the Nitzer Ebb track “Join the Chant.”)
Known Unknown's pastiche of influences runs a wild gamut... from Rage Against the Machine's raw vitriol to The Faint's dark dance to the nihilistic machine grooves of industrial to Devo's freak-new-wave. But as much as Known Unknown celebrates past greats, Childs has produced a new sound, a brash and excited, dark and dancy, funky and bold beast. It's drum machines and bass guitars, sing-alongs and slam dancers. Call it dance or call it punk, this is, above all, POSR music. As says Childs on his music-read blog, “Hell, it’s rock and roll…”
