As the new dynamic duo of Dallas; Sore Losers are a breath of fresh air to the music and entertainment industry. Composed of two members, producer Brandon “King” Blue and rapper Vince “Encyclopedia” Brown, Sore Losers take the experimental approach towards music, combining hip hop elements with an alternative vibe. Inspired by artists such as MGMT, Lupe Fiasco, N.E.R.D., and Gnarls Barkley, Sore Losers have created a sound that is different than any other artist or group in the world of rap.
Hailing from the suburbs of south Dallas, the members met each other in the spring of ‘06 through Dorrough, the Dallas native most notable for his chart topping single “Ice Cream Paint Job”. They worked on and off for the next year but solidified their working relationship over the past year while producer Blue lived in Los Angeles, expanding his musical acumen and influence, picking up on elements such as electronic and house, and embracing another culture as a whole. Meanwhile Brown stayed in Lancaster, Texas and broadened his horizons as well. He notes that the lyrical influences of Chris Martin of Coldplay, and artist such as Matt & Kim helped him enhance his rhymes, and combine that with the southern rap groups he grew up listening to (No Limit Soldiers & Cash Money Records), he can paint a vivid picture of his thoughts while keeping the listener entertained, focusing more on abstract intelligence rather than guns and money.
All of this has created mutual competition between the two, in which each tries to outdo and outshine the other on each track. More than anything, the combination has created an environment of versatility and creativity, a unique sound that can be appreciated by a wide range of diverse artists.
Sore Losers are currently working together to perfect their first project titled “Free Loaders”, which is based on the true stories of their day-to-day lifestyle, and “live for today” mentality. They are on the up rise in their hometown, doing shows around the metroplex, and with an ever growing fan base, anything is possible for this free spirited team.
