A year ago, The Bales were recording music on a laptop in a basement. If you asked any one of them, they would never have guessed that a year later they would have progressed so quickly that they would be recording on a real computer in someone else's basement.
Formerly known as Stereo Soldiers (and before that, The College Park Projects), The Bales is not your average pop/rock band -- they met at the University of Maryland in 2007. While other groups of musicians go for a more bohemian feel, The Bales make no effort to hide who they are: a group of geeks. All four members have a B.S. (or are working on one...c'mon Chris, you're holding us back) in an advanced technological field. Don't think the fact that they're incredibly intelligent (yes We said it!) means they don't sing music everyone can relate to, though. In a modest and heartfelt way, the songs cover the personal experiences of the four; everything ranging from heartbreak & love to the yearning that every 22 year old working professional feels: to quit their jobs and relocate to the sunny shores of Cali.
The Bales music is as unique as they are. Each song is hand crafted to tell a story they can all personally relate to. Like Preston’s first heart break at 17, and then his next at 18, then 19, then 20; you get the picture. Their eclectic music backgrounds also contribute to their sound, with each person bringing their own flair and style. From acoustic pop to rock, jazz, and blues, they bring pieces of everything into their music.
As much as The Bales' music is an insight into their personal lives, it's also meant to be shared. It's an anthem to about things that...well, everyone out there goes through. And we hope you like hearing it as much as we have a blast putting it together and playing it.
Coldplay is selecting a local band to open for them! Right now 15 bands, of which Fools & Horses is one, have been chosen by DC radio station, DC101 - WWDC
