Brian Wilson meets Elliott Smith down a dark alley
The Dead Letters are a new band from Kendal, Cumbria whose musical influences include alternative rock bands such as The
Smashing Pumpkins & Nirvana, and also more melodic, power pop influences such as The Posies & Teenage Fanclub.
Counterbalancing the heavier side there are also more introspective lyrical moments that echo artist such as Elliott Smith.
To date the band have had 2 tracks released on new local label Lakeland Records Ltd compilation CD’s and follow this with EP ‘….by a Thousand Cuts’. The EP, recorded in the remote wilderness of the Lake District with producer Guy Forrester (Shack, OMD, The Real People) is a snapshot of the band who’s early work has drawn praise from the like of Bootleg Magazine (US), Planet Sound (Teletext/Online), and from American musician Ken Stringfellow (Posies, REM, Big Star) whose music is a big influence on the band.

We're trying to get our music out there at the moment so if you like what you hear on our page please feel free to spread the word. You sounded great BTW even without your original drummer and guitarist. When I was in a band we had to do a pub gig without the drummer cos he was ill and the rhythm guitarist had to step up. It went ok but didnt sound the same a guitar down. We really think you pulled it off well.
Did you hear Easy Now? They were pretty good as well wern't they?
Hey, are you guys still able to make it down on Sunday? The music starts dead on 8pm and I'm hoping that I'll be on by about 9:30pm, all going well. And by the way, you're more than welcome to crash at mine than to hurry back on the train...!
Hey you guys, can't work out which one of you is my favourite, the ghost, the farmer, the girl from lazytown, the Mormon or the beast. Infact you're a bit like the village people really aren't you. No but serioulsy, seriously it was a good show you put on, peace xx
Hey you guys, how was Kendal calling, wish I could have been there instead of being stuck in bloody Thailand. Your keyboard player looks damn cool in his shades, I wish I was him
Fantastic set last night, it was good to hear "Tug Of War" and also "Boo" and "Astronaut Song" done all electric instead of acoustic. "I Still Need You" is a sweet finisher as well. See you again soon!
