The Johnnies Hippo Posthumous Records debut out now on compact disc, and available for download from .......... ....Rhapsody.com........ ....AmieStreet.com........ "Talented Newmarket duo creates authentic, non-ironic folk music with sing-along tunes and somehow sounds hipper than most "alternative" bands out there." -New Hampshire Magazine.... "...The Johnnies seem innately aware of our need for rootsy string-picking, bringing us back to simpler times and reminding us that the essential purity of music still dwells on the seacoast...Cote and Coates demonstrate easy chemistry with their vocal harmonies and string rhythms..." -The Wire.... "an excellent addition to the New England music scene... Spoons, saws and clapping have never sounded so good." Jsons.org entertainment review.... The Johnnies play classic, straightforward acoustic music. Born from evenings in living rooms surrounded by good friends and good beer, The Johnnies aim to preserve this mood of plain old good times in their performances and recordings..... "The Johnnies were formed in 2004 by Kansas native Leslie Coates and New England native Christopher Anthony Cote. The pair struck up an artistic friendship, playing living room sessions and regular bar gigs around the NH Seacoast, in between productions of original musicals written by Christopher and directed by Leslie. They recorded an EP length demo in 2004, but between 2005 and 2007 their playing became gradually less frequent. I early 2008 they regrouped to focus on original songs, and an album's worth of original material was quickly born. Musically and lyrically their songs expose both the similarities and differences of Cote and Coates' respective home regions and their connections to them. Rather than clashing however, there emerges a kind of broad unity which keeps their songs interesting." -from Hippo Posthumous Records ..

    Dear The Johnnies,

My angelic son will turn five on Monday, September 7th. He is a good boy who asks little and loves a lot. In fact, he happens to love You Johnnies a lot.
Recently, when on my way out the door to attend one of your fine shows, he told me that he'd like to go to a Johnnies show someday, and I told him that if These Johnnies ever had a daytime show, I would bring him. It got me thinking.
We've got this mutual friend, The Johnnies, my son and I. His name isn't important, but this friend whom we all share, this friend suggests to me that maybe The Johnnies would like to come to this sweet little boy's birthday party and sing him a tune or two, just to make him happy on his special day, the darling tike. The Johnnies, this friend suggests, are really into that kind of thing - bringing joy into the world where it wasn't before.
Oh, no, I thought, Our Johnnies are much too busy for that! They are big, important rock stars with terribly hectic lives and barely time enough to shave, never mind playing free gigs for the kindergarten set!
But no, this mutual friend of ours says, no, they just might be able to swing it.

    Sincerely,
    Jennifer A O'Neil

    PS There will be cake.
