| About WAR |
I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4
WAR, from Swedan, also know as Total War was formed in November of 1995. The band has featured members of Abruptum, Hypocrisy, Ophthalamia, Dark Funeral, Vondur, Lock Up, and In Aeternum.
Blackmoon was accompanying IT along for Abruptum recording sessions at Peter Tägtgren’s Abyss Studios. That “drunken” night, Blackmoon says, “We decided loaded out of our minds, to form a band that night…a band that should be like a true fist to the face to all the theatrical, keyboards, female vocals, troll singing black metal bands that were coming out at the time”. That night they recorded a demo that they didn’t get much use out of since they were wasted.
About 10 months later, WAR returned to the studio and recorded the “Total War” album. This album featured IT (Tony Särkkä) and Blackmoon (David Parland) on guitars, Peter Tägtgren on drums, All (Jim Berger) on vocals, and Mikael Hedlund on bass. With this line-up they found the exact sound they were looking for, “megaviolent black/war metal…total war in the true sense of the word”. The album was released in late 1997.
According to Blackmoon, IT decided to leave the scene at this time which would have an effect on the future of WAR. Still, they went into the studio to record. This time with All on vocals, Blackmoon on guitar, Impious (David Larsson) on bass, and Lars Szöke on drums and guitars. The new album would be called “We Are War”.
Due to some disagreements with the WAR and Necropolis records, they went on a hiatus until 2001. At that point WAR and Necropolis put aside their differences and released both of the original albums together, re-mastered on one album entitled “We Are…Total War”. It was also stated at this time that War would record a new album…as of right now this hasn’t happened. Let’s hope this page will help to generate some kind of a buzz, and WAR will return to the studio once again.
WAR is known in the U.S. as Total War, due to legal reasons.
