  • Bio

.... "As The Weather Duo, upright-bassist Ben Willis and cellist Pat Reinholz attempt to put a cosmic tear in chamber music, letting the outside influences of jazz and electronic music come into play." .. -The A.V. Club Madison .... "I was blown away . . . I can’t even begin to discuss the skill level these guys demonstrated with their instruments– but I can say that usually, when I go to an 'experimental/indie' show, I usually don’t expect to leave feeling like I was watching from a high-price seat in a symphony hall." .. -Amanda Kievet, Urban Agrarian (urbagrarian.com) .. .. "The duo . . . owes their novelty to the fact that they do not fit into any specific genre of music. They improvise, but without operating in the restricted vocabulary of jazz. They play traditional 'classical' instruments, but without obvious hints of Mozart or Beethoven. Although both are classically trained . . . to call them a chamber group or an art ensemble would only limit their creative canvas." .. -Rose Gear, Emmie Magazine .. .. .. "Their compositions weaved and knotted like a web, at times so tight the crowd held its breath." - Isthmus Daily Page The Weather Duo started as a collaboration between Ben Willis and Pat Reinholz in 2008. They play a combination of Improvised and Composed Pieces using acoustic instruments and a variety of live electronic elements. They have studied as a chamber ensemble under Prof. Mark Hetzler at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where they have both studied music--Ben in the studio of Professor Richard Davis, and Pat in the studio of Professor Uri Vardi. They have performed in venues ranging from art galleries to coffeeshops to recital halls in and around Madison and the midwest. Often joining them in their live performances is live video artist Anna Weisling, who collaborates with Pat and Ben to create a visual experience that blends with with the auditory. They have a recently recorded audio demonstration that is available by request.....
