Other than music, movies, television and books (which are in fact my favorite things) ... I also enjoy photography, Pilates, cooking, traveling, eating, roller blading, and texting. Is texting a hobby? I think so.
Music
The first record I owned was John Denver's Greatest Hits. My first concert was Amy Grant. I was a fan of New Kids on the Block, then I started listening to dc talk nonstop, and I went on to love and adore Extreme. Yep, "More Than Words" Extreme. Still do actually, now that they have reunited. I loved Switchfoot since the first time I heard them play live, opening for Third Day. I've been a pretty big fan of Relient K since the release of mmhmm which I'm pretty sure is the best album title ever. Right now I'm really into needtobreathe and Remedy Drive. Most of my favorite songs were written by Rob Thomas, Stephen Jenkins, Johnny Rzeznik, Matthew Thiessen, Toby McKeehan or Jon Foreman.
Movies
I'm a sucker for chick flicks especially Clueless, Pretty Woman, 10 Things I Hate About You, Notting Hill, Jerry Maguire, How To Lose a Guy in Ten Days, The Notebook, and The Holiday. I also love Shrek 2, A Knight's Tale, Serenity, Amazing Grace and every single Pixar movie because, well, Pixar rules.
Television
Anything Joss Whedon touches. American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance, The Biggest Loser. CSI, Without a Trace, CSI: Miami, Las Vegas, Private Practice, Grey's Anatomy, House, Bones and the current fave - wait for it - How I Met Your Mother.
Books
It's so much easier to just list authors I like: Stephen King, Anne Rice, John Grisham, Robin Jones Gunn, Robin Lee Hatcher, Frank Peretti, Oscar Wilde. I also get a lot of magazines and have a hard time throwing them away. Right now Entertainment Weekly and Popular Photography are my favorites.
Heroes
Joss Whedon, Toby McKeehan, my dad, my fiance and a few of my friends who would probably be weirded out if I listed them here. I know some people might think "um hello what about Jesus" but Jesus is not my hero He is my Savior and He is the reason I'm alive. My heroes are just people I respect a lot and want to be like.
About me: Who I Am
I am originally from southern California but I have also lived in Hawaii, Georgia, Tennessee, Holland and Spain. I am opinionated, stubborn and sarcastic but also open, sensitive and sweet. I drive a sports car. If I could have a super power, I would want to fly. I collect frogs - in fact one of my tattoos is a tree frog. I am marrying my best friend in March. I have an amazing family, awesome friends and also have the honor to work with some incredible people. I absolutely love Nashville but I will always be a California girl at heart.
What I Do
You can call it web content management, online marketing or interactive marketing but basically I'm the "web girl" for a somewhat random collection of companies (who I fondly refer to as my clients). This makes me self-employed, which means no paid vacation. It also means I get to work from home or anywhere with an Internet connection. I have two laptops because yeah one isn't enough. I have an iBook G4 and an HP which is pretty new thus it has Vista. I work mostly from the Mac so I guess you could say I love it more. I spend a lot of time on myspace and I check my email constantly. I also text a ton and am on call basically 7 days a week, 14 hours a day. All of my clients are somehow connected to the Christian music industry which is good because I love music and I love God and I am passionate about combining the two. I hope I will always be fortunate enough to earn a living doing something related to music.
How I Got Here
Back in 1990 (yes we have to start back there), I saw a music video by a new Christian group called dc talk. The video was for the song "Heavenbound" and I was hooked. I promptly purchased DC TALK and Nu Thang on cassette and wore them out. In 1992 I got Free at Last the day it came out - on CD. I joined the Vibe Tribe and used my pass to go backstage during the Free At Last tour in Atlanta and Chattanooga. I got to college in 1994 and began working part-time on campus in the computer lab. I learned how to make a web page and decided to make one for dc talk. Soon after, I connected with a few other creators of dc talk fan sites and we joined together to create ardent-enthusiast.com - an archive of dc talk information - along with the enewsletter dc [net] talk. Soon after the release of Jesus Freak, I met some people who worked with dc talk, and then I met Toby. He liked our site.
After graduating from college and earning a degree in graphic design, I moved to Nashville for a job at a Christian music magazine. dc talk's management hired me and my web partner to do dctalk.com. That was in 1999 and lasted for about a year. In January of 2003, I was contracted again ... this time to help update taitband.com and tobymac.com.
I never set out to do what I'm doing now. I would never have even dreamed it to be an attainable goal. I just wanted to make a web site for music I liked, and meet other people who liked it too. I look back and see how God has guided me to the exact place He wants me and I am in awe. Is it a job that is always enjoyable? No. Do I make a lot of money? No. Isn't it cool working from home? Sometimes. But mostly I feel very blessed to be able to work with artists who create art that I love, with a message that I very much believe.
Who I'd like to meet: I've met some really cool people - in Nashville and online - but I'm always open to meeting more. I especially like meeting people whose interests intersect with mine, and who go out of their way to be nice.
Awww lol I was thinking about you the other day too. I was in some store and started thinking about something funny we talked about once and just started laughing. People looked at me like I was crazy. I couldn't even pretend I was on the world's tiniest bluetooth LOL.
So happy for you and your future hubby. That date is coming up soon yay! Congrats again.
sorry for being scared when you came to the door.....usually not rattled about anything...you know i am stocked to the teeth over here in 'anti-theft' gear.....;)K, oh and Yessssss ObamaNation!!
I'm good pussycat...going to be shooting some stuff in Nashville pretty soon (with Erick as well). Did you get my email (from other account) about web stuff? I still can't get over it! Engaged! I'm craving Tutti Mangia ;) You need to come back to Claremont.
Now why I can't -I- get excited about shopping for wedding dresses?? I'm dreading it! (Not 'cause I think I'll not be able to find one 'cause I'm too fat [although that's a valid concern on my part, I admit], but because too many people want to go with me and I hate shopping with people and know that SOMEONE [likely multiple someones] 's feelings are going to get hurt when I don't take them.) Ugh. Well, I hope your wedding planning is going smoother than mine and that all your friends/family members/acquaintances have not taken your engagement to mean they are now free to say to you whatever pops into their heads, including and not limited to, "Geez, you sure spent a lot on your ring," or "Oh... you're only having a dessert reception...?" or "You can't invite that many people!" or "Well you know hardly anyone is going to be able to come to a Friday night wedding." You get the picture. ;) Ahhh, wedding planning! And to think: Some people do this for a living! ;)
