In August 2005 I produced “Celebrating Bird,” the Charlie “Bird” Parker Gravesite Birthday Celebration. This event was covered by the BBC as part of their production of the TV movie, “The Charlie Parker Story,” the very best documentary I have ever seen about this jazz giant. (Unfortunately, their movie will probably never be shown in the United States.) The Celebrating Bird includes jazz musicians paying tribute to the man who changed the course of jazz. We did it again in 2006 and will do it again in ‘07 on August 26th, the August Sunday closest to Bird’s actual birthday - August 29th. Feel free to come join it at Bird’s gravesite. hanks for becoming a Friend of Maple Wood Nature Preserve. We are working hard to add 7.3 acres of pristine forest to the preserve. Feel free to donate time, talent, money or goods to the project.
