Though this band is a four piece,
they sure can put out a king-sized sound.
Born from countless Monday night blues jams
at the Grand Rapids club,
BILLYS / Home of the Blues
in southwest Michigan,
the Band was formed by
Larry Weezil Malone Fitzgerald,
host of the weekly jam.
All veterans in the field of blues music,
each player displays superb professionalism
and is able to work as a unit
in addition to being accomplished soloists.
Weezils Band is:
CHRIS "FLATTOP" FASSBENDER; DRUMS
Chris is a blues drummer from Boston, Mass.
A graduate from Berklee College of Music.
His life ranges from hanging out in blues clubs
on the East Coast and Chicago,
to traveling in a large blues ensemble.
This guy knows the blues.
Wherever he goes and whatever
he does he knows how to throw it down and slam !
Be it traditional or modern blues.
Chris has shared the stage with everybody from the
Three Dog Night
Blue Oyster Cult
Mitch Woods
William Clark
Teddy Morgan
and more.
Opening up for and hanging out with
The Fabulous Thunderbirds
Jan James
B. B. King
The Kinsy Report
His musical experiences go well beyond
that of the blues idiom,
just ask him,
hes got plenty of stories.
However, blues is where he calls home.
Just to shake things up,
He is currently serving on the
Urban Institute of Contemporary Arts Music committee.
Since moving to Grand Rapids in 1995,
He has been apart of Junior Valentine and the Allstars
James Reeser
The Jimmie Stagger Band
and now Weezil Malone.
When you hear him,
you will surely enjoy his drumming.
GORDY HOWE; BASS & VOCALS
A very solid, soulful player raised
in a musical family.
Gordy carries his family
philosophy into the band.
His mission is to carry the
message of love to the world
through our music.
Gordy also plays guitar,
keyboards,
and does back-up vocals.
MIKE "BLUE DOG" HOWE; GUITAR and VOCALS
Mike "Blue Dog" Howe has been playing music for
40 + years, Rock and Roll, Country and blues. Mike
joined Weezil in 2007. Weezil refers to Mike as "the
missing ingredient" the band has been searching
for. Mike playing adds excitement and,Weezil adds,
“ makes my songs sound like they do in my head
when I write them. It is unreal how he comes up
with the sound of the other guitar that was in my
head when I started developing a song. Having that
other guitar creates a wall that is to be reckoned
with and will create a whole new wave of fans for
the band called Weezil Malone”. Mike is also a song
writer. His only hobby is golf.
LAWRENCE WEEZIL MALONE; GUITAR & VOCALS
Those that follow the blues scene know
that the field is crowed with musicians
who are long on talent but
short on originality and inspiration.
This is particularly true of regional artists
who can keep the dance floor filled all night
with cover tunes but clear the room
when they try to
add one of their own tunes to the mix.
Likewise their discs seldom rise above the
"nice try"
category due to the inclusion
of well worn chestnuts and recycled riffs.
Weezil Malone separates himself
from the pack by focusing on a diverse
collection of quality original material.
A humble person,
Weez is likable and believable
as he sings stories about his colorful past,
his current experiences,
and the stories of those around him.
I just want to make people feel good,
maybe even dance and sing.
He has brought his philosophy
to the band, and they all have adopted it...
