W.E. Fest is a multi-day, totally DIY, volunteer-run extravaganza in Wilmington NC that always takes place during the week of Memorial Day Weekend.
The first W.E. Fest was held in 1996 and since then indie bands of all shapes, sizes, colors, and sounds have played this Fest, made friends, and gone home to network, share gigs, keep in touch, and make W.E. Fest part of their lives. This year's WE Fest will take place from Thursday, May 22 through Monday, May 26 at the Soapbox Laundro Lounge, The French Quarter and The Whiskey in downtown Wilmington, NC. The festival will be held on ALL three floors which will allow us to feature all kinds of extra stuff! Rock!. Tickets are one measley dollar a day for three full floors of bands, films, zines, and assorted other bits of goodness.
Past musical participants have included The Dismemberment Plan, Dufus, The Mooney Suzuki, xbxrx, Lamb Of God, Discount, Mae, The Fashion Brigade, Frank Moore, Val Emmich, LandSpeedRecord!, ASG, the Negatones, Tris McCall, The Milwaukees, The Waking Hours, Brett Rosenberg, and many, many more.
For the first year in our history, we are no longer disqualifying bands who have major label ties. While we aren't courting major label acts, the industry has changed a great deal since we first started this event back in 1996, and there are some good folks who shouldn't be excluded just because of a business decision they've made. But there are more than bands - zines, small press publishers, indie comix, visual arts, films, and sometimes even microbrewed beers are also celebrated. Woo hoo!
