We Have The Summer started out in late 2007 with the joining of two separate bands, Taken For Granted and An Untold Story. Taken For Granted was originally called The Dirty Chucks, which included drummer Christen Burke and bassist Mike Dillon, who later joined our brother band, Borderline. Remaining members Matt Hinshaw, Michael Barnas and Cliff Strass started an acoustic band called Amity.
As they picked up ground, they picked up two good friends: drummer Colton Fetterolf and guitarist Sammy Smoot. Amity played local gigs, many at My Brothers Place, and self-recorded an acoustic rock EP, “Scenes From The Satellite Tower,” in early 2008. They were featured on Saint Mary's County's Rock Station 97.7 “The Rocket.” As they all started to become accustomed to one other’s playing style, they wrote many hits such as “Déjà Vu,” and “Dear Anonymous.” They soon changed their style to a more pop sound and shifted from their mellow acoustic sound to a more deep alternative rock sound.
In late 2008, as they started to pick up a good fan base, they all decided it was time to put out a professionally recorded CD because of their new sound. They went to NightSky recording studios in Waldorf, Maryland, and recorded the CD, “Say That Ten Times Fast.” The CD was recorded by producer Ron Vento and was released in early February 2009. While at the studio, Amity found out that it would be in their best interest to change their name to We Have The Summer so that no one would confuse them with other bands called Amity.
The members of We Have The Summer are currently in high school in their junior and senior years, and are working on promoting their new CD and merchandise.
