| About we leave at dawn |
we leave at dawn was technically a band between august 2005 and 9 september 2007. i say techincally because we were only really together for about 4 or 5 months in all that period of time, which in honesty is where it went wrong. finn left for university in leeds about a month after our first two shows with a new spelling of my name/night and the city.... and kelly don't drive/if only we knew. we met up in leeds to play with suis la lune/amalthea in the middle of november without practising on a journey staggered over two days in train's buses and cars. finn was only supposed to be a 'temporary' drummer because he was going away, but once we'd played and written songs it didn't make any sense to get someone else. nobody round here is interested in this kind of music anyway, so it's fortunate that for once one of our bands managed to play as much out of town as we did in town. that only adds up to 11 shows in the end, though, most of which were during our 'kind of a tour' with belle epoque/collin kramer/night and the city during january 2006. we'd just recorded our second set of songs three days beforehand, and with the songs we'd recorded mid december we left for portsmouth, assembling the 9 song tour cdr on the way. the birmingham show fell through and we ended up sleeping on finn's floor for 4 days, much to the annoyance of some of his housemates. we wrote 1 song in april during two practises in the ide rooms, and another during the summer before we took part in the 'all our members are in the same bands' split recording session in nottingham with marshall teller, the tumer street conspiracy, and kids return. james from tumer st released our songs as a split cdr with tumer st, which is now sold out. at some point during the year, the 2 song 7" had come out, i forget when, but it was delayed for some reasons or other i think. we played 1 other gig in 2006 to about 5 people in our home town just before christmas. we started writing a new song in april 2007, which we would record for free (in return for a ruined marshall teller session) during august. 4 days later we played our last exeter show in our practise space, overshadowed by other bands that hopped on at the last minute and someone's birthday. finn went back to university again, and we played our final show in leeds about 3 weeks later with what price wonderland/kids return, after recording the kids return album in nottingham. people were more interested in seeing spy vs spy for the second time in a fortnight 1 hour down the road, and we played out to about 10 people, 5 disinterested people, and the inevitable loss of money we expected.
