Welcome to the WellStrung myspace page!!

On this page we will always have a rotating selection of songs from our studio recordings “Live At Summing Point Studios” made in March of 2008. In addition to these selections, you will also find Live tracks from our gigs, as well as Rehearsal takes that are too good not to share. We will keep these changing so that it stays fresh and to give you an idea of what we’re working on currently. We are forever learning new material and working hard on original material that will be up and running soon!!

And now a little about us...

Wellstrung was formed in February 2007 when Bob Loudon began playing a solo acoustic guitar and vocal showcase at Billy Goodes in Newport, Rhode Island. Shortly after, he was joined by a former band-mate Nayt Patenaude on Mandolin, lead Guitar and backing vocals.

In the following months new members were added... Dave Fogg on Violin, Dave Huth on Bass, and Percussionist Matt “babyhands” Kane.

For the rest of that summer they held a lenghty stint as the sunday night house band at Billy Goodes Tavern. While they progressively played thier way around the Newport bar circut, they gained a reputation for playing a wide variation of cover tunes ranging from bluegrass to reggae to rock-n-roll, all with unique arrangements and improvisation. As thier reputation grew, they landed a steady gig playing at the Gaslamp Grille In Newport... A venue they play frequently to this day....

In the fall of 2007 Dave Fogg left Newport for a career move. His abscence was soon replaced with veteran saxophonist Scott Brown. Wellstrung played on, broadening thier set list and always finding new places to play.

The band went into the studio to record a set of thier favorite covers in late March of 2008. These selections, recorded live at Summing Point Studios in Newport, RI., are some of the tunes playing on our page right now....

Unfortunately, Wellstrung would lose another member to career obligatoins in fall 2008 as Matt “babyhands” Kane became a full-time Firefighter. The percussionist spot was finally filled in Spring 2009 with the addition of Paul "Paco" Silvia. The band has continued on...

Besides the Newport bar scene, Wellstrung has played several gigs in Providence, R.I., thanks to venues such as the Union Station Brew House and Nick-A-Nees.

We have also performed many private parties, weddings and events... To name a few: Octoberfest 2007 at the Gooseberry beach Club in Newport, "Pondstock" 2007 & 2008 on Cape Cod, Bridge Fest 2009 @ Sweetberry Farm, Octoberfest 2008 & 2009 @ The Union Station Brewhouse in Providence, a fundraiser on Rose Island for the Rose Island Lighthouse Foundation, 4th of july 2009 in Wingdale, N.Y. opening for Sarah Borges and the Broken Singles... As well as a few others in Greenwich and Middletown R.I., Long Island and Rye, N.Y. ...

For the last two years we've been honored to participate in the 2008 and 2009 Newport Independent Music Festival at Kings Park in Newport Rhode Island.
