We Love…are elated to announce the return to Space of one of the electronic music scenes defining acts. After a 14 year exile from Ibiza The Chemical Brothers will return to celebrate Space’s 19th birthday, 10th August 2008.
"WE STILL BELIEVE. 14 YEARS AFTER OUR LAST ILL FATED ATTEMPT TO PLAY RECORDS AT SPACE, WE'RE ECSTATIC TO BE ASKED BACK....ROCK THE HOUSE!" The Chemical Brothers
In this special year of retrospective, no act is more suiting to remind us of where we came from and more importantly where we are heading to. Since their auspicious meeting at Manchester University in 1992 the duo have gone on write their selves firmly in the history of dance music.
Their last outing at Space in 1994 is part of clubbing folklore, when We Love’s Darren Hughes had booked them to play for Cream, but we shan't delve too deeply into that one now as a year later The Chems released one of the largest selling dance albums to date.
Exit Planet Dust, a reference to their re-naming from The Dust Bros to The Chemical Brothers paved the way for the Big Beat movement of the late 90’s and is still name-checked as a milestone in our history together. What has followed over the last 10 years is a story of legends. Stadium fillers, Festival headliners and sales of their following 5 albums in the millions including the timeless tracks; Leave Home, Life is Sweet, The Private Psychedelic Reel, Out Of Control, Star Guitar, Believe and last year’s; The Salmon Dance, there are not enough superlatives to associate what We owe to The Brothers Chemical.
Darren Hughes on the return of The Chemical Brothers...
“At f***in' last, this really must be our year. After a 14 year hiatus between the boys playing for me in Ibiza, on the Terrace at Space (yes, when Pepe kicked them off the decks), Pepe & everybody, get ready for the gig of the decade. Don’t just trust my word, just come and see and listen for yourselves. We Love…The Chemical Brothers”.
Mark Broadbent...
"The Chemical Brothers are really one of the last of the great dance acts to still be putting out wicked and relevant dance music, they first came to our attention in the heady days of acid house, this year being the 20th anniversary of the acid house explosion seems like the perfect time for them to return to Space - they first played for us at Space in 1994 and were taken off the decks by Pepe for not playing funky house! - and show the Ibiza party people what they have been missing! The one you've been waiting for!"
Pedro Winters (Busy P - Edbanger)...
"All that Banger sound that kids of today love is something that the Chems have been kicking for quite a while. It is amazing to see them perfom in Ibiza where that dirty and noisy music was not really represented. Hopefully our friends of We Love are smart enough and try to propose a large range of electronic beats. Getting the Chemical Brothers at Space is like driving with John Travolta and Samuel Jackson in Pulp Fiction! It's gonna be dirty, sweaty and of course crazy. Space Rocking Beats is what you're gonna get. The Chems in 2008, why not Daft Punk or Prodigy in 2009 ?"
David Phillips...
"I..m not really a ..back in 88.. house veteran, I came into this from a different background and these two were the first who made me think I could dj with something that I really dug. For me they have always remained at the very top of the tree, way ahead in many ways. So after starting out serving drinks in space 16 years ago, to play before them now as a We Love resident is a big big deal for me"
