   About Wendy Atkinson
Pink Noise, Wendy Atkinson's second solo bass-only album, continues her exploration of the low-end world of electric, acoustic and double basses. Just like her first album she wrote and mixed this one on an analog 4-track. Since its release in January 2007 Pink Noise has charted on college radio stations across North America and been reviewed by publications in Canada, US, China and Germany.

Recently, Wendy’s song “Summer BBQ” from Pink Noise has been featured on the Deep Wireless 5: Radio Art Compilation that was released last month by NAISA (New Adventures in Sound Art) in Toronto.

Wendy's debut album Trim also charted on North American college radio and was featured nationally in Canada on CBC radio's Brave New Waves.

She has performed at the Olympia Experimental Music Festival; Ladyfest Toronto; Ladyfest Ottawa; the experimental Ambient Ping series (Toronto); the Western Front's Raw and Cooked series (Vancouver) and the Access Artist Run Centre's Celebration of John Cage. She was twice selected for Art in the Air, an international audio art festival. Her music was included in Sonic Landscapes, a sound art exhibit held in Michigan, along with Mecca Normal and Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth. In 2007 she completed a West Coast tour including Seattle, Olympia, San Francisco and Los Angeles and an eastern tour that included Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal.

Wendy worked with poet/activist Bud Osborn and David Lester on a spoken word/music CD called Hundred Block Rock. It received national airplay and was made into a video that has been screened at a variety of video poem festivals around the world and was acquired by CBC's national TV show Zed.

She is currently working on a CD collaboration with David Lester, guitarist for the band Mecca Normal.

SELECTED REVIEWS:
"Wendy Atkinson on her second album Pink Noise creates a marvelous album, simultaneously dark and energetic, a spiking of a deep red punch." -- Ned Raggett, All Music Guide, 4 out of 5 stars

“Pink Noise is just as much about atmosphere as it is about clamour.…At times Pink Noise achieves sparse settings...other times, this album taps into playful moments that bounce and writhe with a dark sensuality. ....Atkinson somehow creates worlds within these short spans that are hauntingly taut and frayed at every conceivable edge.” – Liz Worth, Exclaim Magazine (Toronto, ON)

“PiNK NOiSE places Atkinson in the same territory as previous musical explorers such as Brian Eno or Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo.” – Jeff Friesen, Earshot (Toronto, ON)

“Elements combine into an aural version of people watching…when each track ends, you feel as if you’ve come up from a meditation.” – Girlistic Magazine (Santa Maria, CA)

"Wonderfully varied solo bass album. Like her last record, this is all about the bass. Those interested in bass would be doing themselves a favour by checking Wendy Atkinson out. She has a lot of good ideas about what to do with basses. I feel like I’ll wreck the surprise if I say anymore." – Matt Collins, Broken Pencil Magazine (Canada)

"At times playful, mostly mournful but always moody, Atkinson’s bass songs are strange, [and] pretty..."— Punk Planet (USA)

"Atkinson has done with bass what Eno did with synthesizers in his early experiments with Ambient music."— Terminal City (Vancouver)

" Her melodies are quite song-like and remind me of the stark, simple constructions favored by post-punks like the Mekons, the Young Marble Giants and the Raincoats twenty-odd years ago."—Signal to Noise (USA)

"Fans of Tortoise and Pell Mell will dig this." — Jon Snyder, Out There Monthly (Spokane, WA)

Dear Wendy Atkinson

Every time that we write music... play an instrument... dance or act in a play... Something is healing inside...

When we share it with friends... Something is healing all over...

Love can drive... in a simple way... everything

Have a lot of smiles... this weekend...

We are connected

hey, your music is wild. deeply intuitive, like uh... tuned to some primal mistery. also, oddly stretched between abstraction and... earth. or something. anyhow, real beauty.

and hey, thanks. yeah, that hiking tune with Lily is nice... I guess it orbits near your neighborhood... but of course, when you live in the mountains, the nearest neighbor is miles away.

take care.

I Love This Town was pleasantly relaxing, the ambient background evoking nostalgia and the bass nicely complimenting the overall vibe. Great ideas! Keep on.
