Growing up in Tarrant County, Wendy Davis went to work at 14 to help her mother who was raising four children as a single mom. After high school Wendy attended Tarrant County College while working two jobs and raising a young daughter on her own. Through her hard work and determination she went on to attend TCU, graduating first in her class and becoming the first in her family to graduate college. Wendy continued to pursue her educational dreams, going on to graduate with honors from Harvard Law School. Wendy is the proud mother of two daughters, Dru, who is a freshman in college, and Amber, who recently graduated from TCU.
As a City Council member, she made government work better
In her service on the Fort Worth City Council, Wendy developed a proven record of working to build a vibrant economy and a healthy community. Wendy has been consistently recognized as a leader in economic development and has shown she is willing to put politics aside to help solve the problems we face. As chair of the Central CIty Revitalization and Economic Development Committee, she worked to create new jobs for Tarrant County and enhance our quality of life.
As a community leader, Wendy helped kids succeed
Education is and always will be a priority for Wendy. Over the years, Wendy has devoted time and resources to enhance Summerbridge, a program that targets disadvantaged young people in Tarrant County for whom college is not a likely part of their future. Through intense summer learning programs and school-year tutoring, these promising young students are prepared for the possibility of college. Today, many of these young people are graduating from college, having found the same opportunity out of poverty through education that Wendy once found herself.
As a neighbor, Wendy cares about our concerns
Wendy believes that public office should be about representation, listening, and service. She shares your frustration with increased utility costs, unaffordable health and homeowner's insurance, and the state's failure to adequately fund our public education system. As your Senator, Wendy will work proactively to ensure that the everyday problems we face are being heard in Austin and are addressed.
As a Texan, Wendy has seen enough of Austin's failures
"Our failed leaders in Austin have forgotten that it is us, not special interests, who call them to serve. The people of Tarrant County deserve leadership that is more concerned with people than politics. We need a representative who will work to bring real change to the way Austin does business. In the Texas Legislature, I'll do just that." -Wendy Davis
