| I am so grateful for books, I can't get enough! It is not uncommon for me to be reading 5 or 6 at a time. I just love to savor them, sometimes devour them and I especially enjoy going to bed with them.
If you have the time I highly recommend the Gunslinger series by Stephen King. Besides being a good read you can really get into the metaphysical aspects of it. I also really enjoyed The Talisman - but I am a huge fan of Stephen King in general. Life of Pi by Yann Martel encouraged me to question many things, which include religion, nature and the truth (and how very subjective it is). I love Mark Helprin's novels - they are rich and beautiful and quirky.(Memoir From Antproof Case, Winter's Tale - which I think of often for some reason, & Freddy and Fredericka). Isobel Allende - House of Spirits is my favorite. The Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon - The first book is sinfully erotic but not in a sappy romance novel sort of way. I like Bill Bryson's books, some are so funny I have to read them out loud to my husband because I just can't keep it to myself or retell it in a justifiable way. A Fine Balance by Rohinton Minstry for it's grainy realism. Fast Food Nation, The Omnivores Dilemma. These books opened my awareness to many things and I am grateful for this. It made me question not only the fast food industry, but many things that I had blindly bought into (mostly big corporations and politics and hidden agendas). I am trying to live my life more organically now (in all areas- food, religion, politics, consumption, ideas). The Power of NOW - Eckhart Tolle and The Law of Attraction by Esther and Jerry Hicks - simply put, these books have changed my life. I am more appreciative and present in my life because of these books. I also enjoyed The God Delusion by Dawkins. |
