Wendy has been singing since she was a small child,
and was eventually singing in bands by the time she reached secondary school.
These were bands of varying genres until at the tender age of 16 she discovered folk!
Regularly joining her parents at the local folk club
The Railway Inn, in Lymm, Cheshire, she was bitten by the bug
and began treading the path at folk clubs
in and around the North West of England.
Influenced by the likes of Deidre Scanlon, Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill,
Maddy Prior, Dolores Keane, Niamh Parsons and Karine Polwart,
Wendy loves both traditional and contemporary folk,
from all sides of the British Isles and Ireland. This is to be heard
in the broad range of songs and styles she sings today.
Wendy also plays Bodhrán (a lovely blood red Brendan White) and penny whistle.
Wendy is of English/Scottish parentage
and came to the Netherlands some 15 years ago,
where she began her ‘Dutch folk career’ with Bert Haasjes
in her first mainland Europe endeavour, the duo “Widdershins”,
in which she played for some 5 years.
Later Wendy joined the North Holland band ‘Emerald’
with whom she gigged in and around the Netherlands and Belgium with,
for a further 4 years
After a brief musical interlude and tour to Germany and Hungary
with the dynamic band ‘Dolmen’ she continues to regularly visit
Irish/traditional sessions around the country where she is a well known face.
Today she is found as the vocalist of the fresh band Drumlin, and as vocalist in the North Holland band ’Mind the Midgie’.
Bedankt voor je reactie! Ik luister nu naar jouw muziek. Wow, erg mooi. :-) Hele mooie sfeer, erg celtisch voor mijn gevoel. Hele mooie stemmen. Ik zou je zelfs een keer willen inhuren om vocals te doen bij een filmproject, mocht het nodig zijn. :-)
Eindelijk eens een berichtje terug, want ik begon behoorlijk achter te lopen met Hyves en nu ook al met MySpace...En ja, zoiets sluipt er ongemerkt in.
Ik moet je in ieder geval nog de groeten terug doen van Robert en Tamara. We hebben een paar dagen geleden een bespreking gehad over de verdere plannen die er zijn, en vanaf begin augustus starten we serieus met de cd-opnamen. Tot die tijd is er dan de voorbereiding er naar toe en het zoeken naar mensen die mogelijk op een track, of meerdere tracks, zouden willen meedoen. Muzikaal gezien wordt het nogal gevarieerd. Wat het zoeken naar gastmusici wel lastiger zal maken, denk ik. De streefdatum van een mogelijke release ligt rond de lente van 2009. Dus in de tijd tussen augustus en zeg maar het begin van het volgend jaar moet het allemaal opgenomen worden. En uiteraard leggen Robert en ik eerst de basis voor alles neer. De gastmusici komen dan, naar verwachting, richting het najaar aan bod.
Mocht je nog steeds geïnteresseerd zijn voor de folk-getinte nummers, dan hoor ik dat graag van je. En dan kunnen Robert en ik daar alvast rekening mee houden. Het zou dan gaan om een korte track leadvocals, een aantal backing-vocal tracks en in dezelfde nummers een Bodhran-toevoeging. Voor dezelfde nummers zijn we overigens ook al op zoek naar een fiddler/violist(e) en een fluitist(e). Dus mocht je daar suggesties over hebben, dan hoor ik dat ook graag.
MySpace is overigens wel overweldigend hoor! Ik heb in de afgelopen weken dat ik er nu op ben, zo ontzettend veel, en ook goede, muziek gehoord. En uiteraard was ik eerst op zoek naar mijn roots. Waar Keltische folk er één van is. Nooit geweten dat er nog zoveel groepen en solisten op dit gebied hiermee bezig zijn.

Thanks for the comment :) nah thats not me singing thats one of my friends he just asked me to be on the album with him thats all. the bodhran can be hardly heard but its there lol. im recording in about two weeks with more musicians so youl be able to hear the bodhran alot better.. if you want to check out my video on my profile you can get a taste for my style there coz ya can hear it. but your music is lovely thanks alot for dropping by..

It's gonna be a great weekend, which actually starts ... tonight. Meeting with four John O'Gods lads, just back from a small trip to the States. Thursday 29 June I'll do a great gig in Clancy's (Tilburg) with Danny Guinan, we'll warm up Christy Moore's crowd there round 18 hrs and cool them down directly after his show in 013.
Friday and saturday back to Mulligans (Amsterdam) with John O'Dreams since a long time. Back to the stage, the place where we belong. Our new CD will be finished soon!
More gigs in Mulligans coming up. Wednesday 11 June the whole John O'Gods gang will try to climb the small stage there for a great party.
Friday 13 June (aaarrrrgh!) another gig in Mulligans, this time with Daithi Rua, a gig not to be missed!
I'm thinking of bringing a sleeping back to Mulligans, might be a good idea to stay there for some days ...
Sunday 15 June another John O'Gods, in Luxembourg, Harderwijk. The place where this unique project started two years ago.
Then it's up to Ireland with The John O'Gods for gigs in Dublin, Tullamore and Shannonbridge. Can't wait!
The first two weeks of July I'll spend my holidays in Tuscany, Italy. After that it's time to fly to Norway for some festival gigs with Daithi Rua.
