Wendy Sobel is that rare performer who approaches singing with a sensitivity to lyrics that turns the song into a short story. Her vocals are velvet smooth and her guitar playing is nothing short of inspired. She writes songs that speak to the human emotion in a way we can all hear.
Singer-songwriter Wendy Sobel is considered one of Boston’s finest solo artists. In the late 1980’s, she was voted “Favorite local guitarist” by the readers of Boston Rock. She was also voted “Favorite Solo Artist” by the Boston Globe Readers Poll. Her extensive studio experience includes a number of sessions with Rolling Stones producer Jimmy Miller.
Wendy performed as lead guitarist and vocalist for a number of New England bands, most notably the wildly popular rock band “Girls Night Out”. With a critically acclaimed E.P. and two music videos to their credit, it comes as no surprise when “Girls Night Out” was chosen one of the five “Best Unsigned Bands in America” by Musician Magazine.
Wendy was also half of the folk-rock duo “Daring Angels” since 1991. “Daring Angels” released a CD titled “Turned Around”, which Steve Morse of the Boston Globe dubbed “both soothing to the ear and spiritually stimulating, a true high-water mark in their career”. In 1995 “Turned Around” was nominated “Best Debut Folk Album” in the Boston Music Awards.
Both with bands and as a solo artist, Wendy has performed all over the Northeast. She has shared the stage with acts such as: Kathy Mattea, Dan Fogelberg, The Four Tops, Lily Tomlin, Karla Bonoff, Martha Reeves, Livingston Taylor, Dave Mason, just to name a few.
Included in her credits are a vast number of radio and television interviews and appearances, both in the US and England.
Seeing Wendy Sobel in a performance is truly an unforgettable experience. Her scorching guitar riffs, riveting vocals and compelling songwriting is nothing short of electric!
