Wen specializes in playing ballads, bossas, and bebop. Wen performs often on Santa Monica's famed 3rd St. Promenade at 2 P.M. Wen began playing saxophone in the 6th grade, Lincoln Middle School Alameda, Ca. Upon graduating from high school he quit music for 13 years. However when working for NBC NEWS IN CHICAGO, encouraged by the likes of ELDEE YOUNG, RAMSEY LEWIS'S FIRST BASSIST AND VON FREEMAN, Wen began playing music again. Wen graduated from ALAMEDA HIGH SCHOOL, has a B.S. from Univ of Ca-Berkeley, a J.D. from Univ of Ca. Hastings College of the Law, was Assistant General Counsel, U.S. Peace Corps, attended the Columbia Grad Sch of Journalism, worked for NBC NEWS for 11 years, and more importantly for this blog tutored by TOOTIE HEATH, HARVEY WAINAPEL at THE STANFORD JAZZ WORKSHOP.
Wen was profiled April 21, 2008 in THE SANTA MONICA DAILY NEWS www.smdp.com, called "THE CHINESE BIRD OF SANTA MONICA", FEB. 2003, L.A. JAZZ SCENE.
