"These guys fit quite nicely into the 'fun' category... WFB is a pleasant, unexpected surprise, not unlike finding basil on a pizza, which is absolutely divine... Like comfort food in song form." Quiet Color (www.quietcolor.com)
Barton’s musical roots can be traced through history through time to days before the band was ever actually formed. For starters Benita was the iconic multicultural face of Easter Seals where she sang and pretty much did the jig and there is video evidence of this out there somewhere. Then there is Will who was a Musicfest participant circa grade 2 [FYI they don’t just give those green jagged participation ribbons out to anyone…okay they do but still]. Then there is Mike who showcased his knowledge of Frankincense and Mir as one of three wise men –I am told he was so convincing that they asked him to play the part of the fence in the Huck Fin play the following year. And when Rachel was in grade three she made her musical debut at a birthday party where she performed a piece with her sister while dressed up as a dog with top hat and cane [pretty sure the dog part was just included to add a subtle layer of humiliation]. The piece was quite complex complete with subtle gestures that were almost like dance moves. The performance was one of a few that evening [actually she totally choked and her sister hated her until they served cake].

That was a great set at The Boat. We're For Barton are one of those bands that defines the essence of TO. A warm indie-pop sound, Nick Drake-style vocals, delicate keyboard playing. Like opening a treasure-box, it's this wide-eyed charm, DIY-type approach, that makes the band uniquely our own.
I saw two guys get chased by a gang with knives, driving a van through the middle of a park yesterday. South London is well hard. Also, my dog smells. See you all very soon.
