West Coast Arts is a local non-profit organisation run entirely by local musicians and volunteers. It aims to promote subsidised live music, spoken word and theatre events from all over the world for both local people and visitors to this remote area of north-west Scotland to enjoy year-round.
WCA uses two main venues - Aultbea Village Hall, an old building with a stage which was once a cinema for the use of troops stationed on the Loch in World War Two - and Poolewe Village Hall, which features a modern, purpose-built performance space ideal for musical events and theatre in the round. Increasingly we are also staging larger events at Gairloch Community Centre a few miles round the coast, or intimate music nights in the bar of the Poolewe Hotel.
Past appearances at our venues include traditional fiddler Alistair McCulloch, New York klezmer wizards the Luminescent Orchestrii, cabaret duo Flamin' Dames, jazzman Theo Travis, singing trio Sirens now The Shee, violinist Christian Garrick, spoken word from actor Andrew Harrison and drama productions from Edinburgh's Traverse Theatre, Mull Theatre and Stellar Quines Theatre.
We also stage musical events featuring local musicians and artists where possible.
