GeneralChinook Jargon, Oregon History, The Old West, Western History, Old Cemeteries, Ghost Towns, Gold Prospecting and Mining, Shooting, Hunting, Guns
MusicJohnny Cash, Marty Robbins, Dwight Yokum, Willie Nelson and a bunch of stuff that would probably really surprise you.
MoviesTombstone, Rio Bravo, The Grand Duel, Young Guns, The Quick and the Dead, The Cowboys, The Searchers, For A Few Dollars More. I also have a real thing for old cult classics.
TelevisionI don't watch it.
BooksI have a real thing about books and I have THOUSANDS of them, mostly on the frontier history of Oregon, Washington, Idaho and British Columbia. I have so many books that we're tripping over them for lack of shelf space. I probably read in excess of 150 to 200 books a year.

Some of my more recent finds include "The Cattle Country of Peter French","Black Bart: Boulevardier Bandit", "The Bad and The Lonely" (on Canadian outlaws, which happens to also include Boon Helm who raised hell on both sides of the Medicine Line), "Oregon Folklore", "In Pursuit of the McCartys", "Hank Vaughan: A Hell Raising Horse Trader From The Bunchgrass Country", "Fire At Eden's Gate: Tom McCall and The Oregon Story", "And There Were Men" by Blankenship (1949) and others.

Some of my favorite western novels include -

The Wild Bunch by Ernest Haycox, Borden Chantry by Louis L'Amour, Horse Hill Heaven and The Desert of Wheat by Zane Grey, Six Bits a Day by Elmer Kelton, Walk Proud Stand Tall by Johnny D. Boggs, Bad Times Coming by Gil Martin,

HeroesI'm not too big on hero worship, nor should you be. We're all just people and it's up to each of us to make our own way.

That said, I have a profound respect for anyone who will stand up for what they believe.

   Kerby's Blurbs
About me:
Kerby Jackson is an author of short western fiction, western novels and historical non-fiction. He is a native of Oregon, which he regards as "The Real Old West" due not only to the area's location on the far Western edge of the North American continent, but also its turbulent frontier history.

Though Jackson has lived elsewhere, including Idaho, Washington and also Scotland, it is in his native Oregon where he sets the majority of his fiction.

He is a compulsive student of the history of the Pacific Northwest, particularly that of the Oregon, which typically shows in his written work. In addition to reading voraciously, he has tromped through ghost towns throughout the Pacific Northwest and mined for gold along some of the same creeks where the old timers walked back in the day.

Kerby Jackson is the author of "The Troubled Land" which is a traditional western set in Eastern Oregon's Owyhee Country. "The Troubled Land" follows the story of Ken Payne, who is a retired and very troubled gunman who is thrust headlong into a conflict between a group of hard working settlers and a greedy businessman who will stop at nothing to grab up their land.

"The Troubled Land" is coming soon to Amazon.com and a bookstore near you.

He is currently at work on two more novels:

"The Sweet Revenge of Chance Love" which has a vengeance theme and is set in Jackson's native Rogue Country in South West Oregon. "The Sweet Revenge ..." follows the story of a young man who is out to avenge the death of his family at the hand of a group of now aging outlaws.

"The Tarnished Star", which is also set in the Rogue Country during the 1890's. It follows the story of Jim Nelson, who returns to the town of French Gulch in search of his estranged brother, only to find that the townsite is abandoned and that his brother has murdered at the hands of a corrupt lawman.

Or read some of my work:

Skookum - Sherrif Lloyd Brackett sure has his hands full. He's feeling his age and having to track down an escaped prisoner through the Rogue River's Hellgate Canyon.

The Troubled Land (novel excerpt) - - Ken Payne is a retired gunman seeking a new start, but when he stumbles onto a group of murdered cowboys in Oregon's Owhyee Country,he's thrown head first into a full blown range war that is bound to force him to pick up his gun again.

Who I'd like to meet:
Oregonians. Others interested in the Old West, Cowboy Action Shooting, Historical Re-enactment, Guns, Ghost Towns, Western Fiction, Oregon History, Books, Film, Writing, Independent Publishing, Prospecting, Treasure Hunting and you name it.

Anyone who believes in doing it their own way, regardless of what the nay-sayers think.
